Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development OECD

The OECD has identified 20 metal substances as High Production Volume (HPV) chemicals (OECD 2009) (Table 7.3). HPV chemicals include all chemicals reported to be produced or imported at amounts exceeding 1,000 tons per year in at least one OECD manber country or in the European Union region. None of the metals identified as HPV chemicals have an OECD Screening Information Data Set (SIDS) (OECD 2007). The SIDS is described in http //www.oecd.org/Hpv/UI/Search.aspx. [Pg.256]

Note that good laboratory practice (glp) should not be confused with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP). The latter is the name given to a set of principles governing the organizational process and the condition under which non-clinical health and environmental safety studies are planned, performed, monitored, recorded, archived and reported, and was put forward initially by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) (see Chapters 2 and 9). [Pg.100]

While not a regulatory body, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has increasingly become involved in the use of QSARs and expert systems to predict toxicity. In particular, the OECD has organized a freely available database on methods to predict chemical and physical properties of molecules (available from www.oecd.org or webdominol.oecd.org/comnet/env/models.nsf)... [Pg.426]

A major amendment was made to the Japanese Chemical Substances Control Law in April 2004 on the recommendations made by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in the Environmental Conservation Review - Further Expansion of the Regulation Scope for Conservation of Ecosystem in line with the Agenda 21 - Human Action Program for Sustainable Development of the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED). In order to conform to international harmonisation, the amended Chemical Substances Control Law has introduced a new examination and regulation system to prevent not only hazards to human health but also damages to animals and plants. [Pg.284]

A recent survey by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), has investigated production of PFSAs, PFCAs and products or mixtures containing PFSAs and PFCAs [19]. Caution is advised that results from this survey may overestimate actual production values. Results indicated that in 2005, 74 to 175 metric tonnes of PFOS- and PFOS-containing products were manufactured and/or imported, of which up to 90 metric tonnes were PFOSF. These production volumes were less than the... [Pg.30]

Harmonization initiatives can occur as a result of specific agreements between two or more countries, as in Europe (EU) through the European Conunission (EC), in North America under the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) or more broadly under the umbrella of international nongovernmental organizations such as the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). [Pg.343]
