Organics dryer

When the mercury present in the atmosphere is primarily in the form of an organic mercury compound, it may be preferable to utilise an aqueous scmbber. This method is particularly useful for control of emissions from reactors and from dryers. For efficient and economical operation, an aqueous solution of caustic soda, sodium hypochlorite, or sodium sulfide is reckculated through the scmbber until the solution is saturated with the mercury compound. [Pg.117]

Heat-transfer coefficients in steam-tube dryers range from 30 to 85 J/(m s K). Coefficients will increasewith increasing steam temperature because of increased heat transfer by radiation. In units carrying saturated steam at 420 to 450 K, the heat flux UAT will range from 6300 J/(m s) for difficult-to-diy and organic solids and to 1890 to 3790 J/(m s) for finely divided inorganic materials. The effect of steam pressure on heat-transfer rates up to 8.6 X 10 Pa is illustrated in Fig. 12-71. [Pg.1210]

Benzene (fresh or recycled) and tetrapropylene are fed in the reactor (R) over the dryer (D). The hydrogen fluoride is supplied to the reactor either from the connected settling tank (ST) or purified from the HF refining. From ST the organic phase is washed in washer W and from there it is pumped to the distillation. Here four fractions are obtained ... [Pg.78]

They may also be required in industrial applications where they become part of venting systems on fermenters, centrifuges, autoclaves and freeze-dryers. Certain types of filter (membrane filters) also have an important role in sterility testing, where they can be employed to trap and concentrate contaminating organisms from solutions under... [Pg.405]

When the stretched film was dried in air (simply applying a hair-dryer for 2 min), only diffraction on the equator as two spots of 41 A was observed but not diffraction on the meridian for base-pairs (Fig. 7c). This suggests that the orientation of the base pairs is not perpendicular to the stretched direction, although the DNA strands are aligned parallel to the stretched direction. Figure 8 shows CD spectra of the cast film of the DNA-lipid complex in wet (a) and dry states (b). The CD spectrum of the wet film was consistent with a B-form structure of native DNA in fibers obtained from aqueous solution [1-3]. On the contrary, the CD spectrum in the dry state resembles the A-form of DNA in which the base pairs slant to the axis of the strands [2,3]. These results are consistent with CD spectra of the DNA-lipid complex in an organic solution DNA exists in the B-form in the presence of water and the C-form in the ab-... [Pg.64]

The second major wastewater discharge (about 1.2m /min or 318 gpm) is from the bottom of the scrubbers used after a dry dust collector cyclone to reduce the dust concentration in the effluent air stream from the phosphate dryer. The underflow of the scrubber contains a high concentration of dust and mud, laden with tiny phosphate organic and inorganic silica and clay particles, and is disposed of in a nearby stream. The main pollutant in the flow to the stream is P2O5 at a concentration of nearly 1200 mg/L and it remains mostly as suspended particles. [Pg.438]

Contaminated soil is fed into a rotary dryer where the temperature is raised to between 500 and 800°F. As the soil is heated, moisture and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are vaporized. The heated exhaust gases from the dryer are forced through a baghouse where soil fines and dust particles are removed. Exhaust gases are then passed through a catalytic oxidizer to remove hydrocarbons. [Pg.842]

The Cello pulse combustion burner system is an ex sitn technology for the enhancement of combustion devices. Cello pulse combustion can be incorporated into the constrnction of most new combustion devices or can be retrofit to most existing incinerators, boilers, and dryers. The system can be used to treat any material typically treated in a conventional incinerator, including soils, sludges, medical wastes, and liquids contaminated with volatile organic compounds (VOCs) or semivolatile organic componnds (SVOCs). The CeUo system has been installed in commercial systems and is commercially available. [Pg.988]

Contaminated feedstock is heated in an indirectly fired rotary dryer. The vapors are then transported to a gas treatment system via an inert gas such as nitrogen where they are scrubbed and cooled to condense the organics. The carrier gas is reheated and recycled to the dryer. The recovered organics can be reclaimed, used on-site or off-site as fuel, or incinerated. The technology is available in laboratory-, pilot-, and full-scale systems. [Pg.1118]

The plan above slated is applicable to the purification of the supply of water to towns, as well as to small quantities for domestic and manufacturing purposes. To broweTS, dryers, starchmokers, soda water and lemonade manufacturers, et cetera, a supply of water free from color and organic impurities is an essential requisite and the Editor after long and careful Btudy of the numerous processes Recommended for purifying water, prefers the one above detailed, as being, at once the most simple, easy, and effectual. [Pg.1088]
