Recommendations for process

Stainless steel alloys show exceUent corrosion resistance to HCl gas up to a temperature of 400°C. However, these are normally not recommended for process equipment owing to stress corrosion cracking during periods of cooling and shut down. The corrosion rate of Monel is similar to that of mild steel. Pure (99.6%) nickel and high nickel alloys such as Inconel 600 can be used for operation at temperatures up to 525°C where the corrosion rate is reported to be about 0.08 cm/yr (see Nickel and nickel alloys). 

The spacing recommendations for process layout have been presented in literature as matrixes and lists of the typical minimum distances between different process items (Industrial Risk Insurers (1991) Bausbacher and Hunt (1993) Prugh (1982)). A suitable distance to another process item depends mostly on the safety properties of the process items. The clearance required for maintenance and access determine usually shorter spacings compared to safety clearances. In some references access and maintenance clearances are given separately. Therefore it can be assumed that the average of the recommended equipment spacings is mostly related to the general unsafety of a specific process item. 

This approach is not recommended for process safety incident investigation. If the team conducting the incident investigation has been chosen for their experience, technical knowledge, and skills, they are best placed to develop the recommendations to prevent a recurrence.

The standard also defines replacement in kind as a replacement that satisfies the design specification. In December 1988, the Organization Resources Counselors, Inc., in order to assist the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), prepared a report entitled Recommendations for Process Hazards Management of Substances with Catastrophic Au Potential. [131 This document was drafted to help OSHA revise standards for handling ref nos. hazardous materials. 

The Chlorine Institute developed and released Pamphlet 86, Recommendations to Chlor-Alkali Manufacturing Facilities for the Prevention of Chlorine Releases, [16] in October 1990. This 15-page pamphlet acknowledges the ORC report Recommendations for Process Hazards Management of Substances with Catastrophic Potential was one of the primary documents used to develop it.

Statistical models are strongly recommended for process optimization because of their mathematical expression and their being considered as verified models.

An adjustable pump regulates the flowrate of the water feed, However, the viscosity of the oil is such that an in-line pump would be prohibitively expensive. Therefore, the flowrate of the oil feed, Fq is directly dependent on the height in the holding tanks, Ag, and an in-line adjustable valve on this stream is not recommended for process control.

Melt temperature (Tm) refers to a plastic when it melts or softens and begins to have flow tendency. It provides recommendation for processing temperature to be used and related to tolerance and shrinkage behavior of molded products.
