Optical copiers

Dithiolene complexes, and more specifically the nickel derivatives, are involved in materials used for optical data storage, such as compact disc or laser disc read-only memory (CD- or LD-ROM), and also in copiers or photography related devices. In the latter case, it is the IR-absorbing property that is exploited. Some of these compounds can be found in reviews by Mueller-Westerhoff et al. (353, 354). Recent patents are given as examples in references (458—481). In the field of optical storage, short reviews were published in 1988 (482) and 1990 (362, 483). Here, the dithiolene complexes act as inhibitors of the laser-induced fading of the colored thin layers of the optical discs. They also act as an antioxidant and increase the photostability of the cyanine dyes that constitute the recording layer. Contrary to what was observed for the two... [Pg.463]

Frequency doubling, or SHG, as illustrated in Figure 1, is of keen interest as a means of generating new laser sources. Frequency doubling of low power diode lasers from the red or infrared into the blue comprise a prime commercial application. Device outlets include higher capacity optical storage devices, as well as more sensitive laser printers and copiers. The objective is to increase not only the molecular response p, but of course the material response Be-... [Pg.244]

Additionally, this is a spot-free drying technique that leaves no trace of moisture on the material surface, which is especially important when drying films, plastics, polished metals, ceramics, and so forth. So far, displacement drying has found application in the field of electronics (printed circuit boards, relays, semiconductors, TV tubs), optics (eyeglass frames and lenses, films, cameras), electromechanics (copiers, electric motors), and mechanics (tools, cutlery, medical instruments). According to Devine (1980), in 1980 there were over 600 drying systems in operation in Europe, ranging in capacity from 40 liters to several cubic meters. [Pg.282]

The authors illustrate the point with Canon, a manufacturer of a range of high-technology products. Canon has three core competencies in (1) precision mechanics, (2) fine optics, and (3) microelectronics. Like Honda, Canon applies combinations of these to a score of products ranging from cameras to copiers. [Pg.220]

Office equipment, audiovisual devices, various parts for still cameras and camcorders, mechanical parts for FDD and HDD, optical pickup parts for CD and DVD (lens holders, slide bases), parts for mobile phones, chassis of copiers and facsimiles, mechaniced parts for laser printers, and speaker cones... [Pg.253]

Organic electrophotographic photoreceptors are also widely used in laser printers [13,14]. The principal of these printers is almost the same as in a photocopier except the direct generation of the image by a laser instead of the optical system in a copier. Photoreceptors of the laser printers have to absorb in the near infrared range of spectrum. The third area in which photoconductive polymers or polymer composites are applied are electrophotographic printing plates. [Pg.786]
