Operations concept component

The service concept component integrates both the operations concept component and the customer targeted component. It delivers multidimensional information through the business and its value-adding internal and external partners, and delivers a broader customer experience. In short, the services concept model delivers the what to the service value encounter. [Pg.82]

The operations concept component houses networiced information systems, and extensive data storage and retrieval systems. In eonjune-... [Pg.82]

Although the operating concept of SOFCs is rather simple, the selection of materials for the individual components presents enormous challenges. Each material must have the electrical properties required to perform its function in the cell. There must be enough chemical and structural stability to endure fabrication and operation at high temperatures. The fuel cell needs to run at high temperatures in order to achieve sufficiently high current densities and power output ... [Pg.617]

Many commercial separations employing zeolites utilize pressure swing adsorption, temperature swing adsorption, or a combination of the two (55). The basic operating concept is that one component of the mixture preferentially will adsorb into the zeolite leaving an exit gas stream enriched in the other components. The adsorbed component is then removed from the zeolite adsorbent by either heating or reducing pressure once the bed capacity is reached. The key to successful process operation is that one wants to... [Pg.349]

Kehlhofer, Rolf, et al. Combined-Cycle Gas and Steam Turbine Power Plants. 3d ed. Tulsa, Okla. Penn Well, 2009. Application of gas turbine as part of cutting-edge powergeneration technology. Presents concepts, components, applications, operations of these plants. Each chapter has illustrative figures. Peng, William W. Fundamentals of Turbomachinery. Hoboken, N.J. John Wiley Sons, 2008. Chapter 8 discusses gas turbines and covers thermodynamics, design, efficiency, and performance, as well as applications illustrated. [Pg.860]

The second type of solution polymerization concept uses mixtures of supercritical ethylene and molten PE as the medium for ethylene polymerization. Some reactors previously used for free-radical ethylene polymerization in supercritical ethylene at high pressure (see Olefin POLYMERS,LOW DENSITY polyethylene) were converted for the catalytic synthesis of LLDPE. Both stirred and tubular autoclaves operating at 30—200 MPa (4,500—30,000 psig) and 170—350°C can also be used for this purpose. Residence times in these reactors are short, from 1 to 5 minutes. Three types of catalysts are used in these processes. The first type includes pseudo-homogeneous Ziegler catalysts. In this case, all catalyst components are introduced into a reactor as hquids or solutions but form soHd catalysts when combined in the reactor. Examples of such catalysts include titanium tetrachloride as well as its mixtures with vanadium oxytrichloride and a trialkyl aluminum compound (53,54). The second type of catalysts are soHd Ziegler catalysts (55). Both of these catalysts produce compositionaHy nonuniform LLDPE resins. Exxon Chemical Company uses a third type of catalysts, metallocene catalysts, in a similar solution process to produce uniformly branched ethylene copolymers with 1-butene and 1-hexene called Exact resins (56). [Pg.400]

The dominant mechanism of purification for column ciystallization of sohd-solution systems is reciystallization. The rate of mass transfer resulting from reciystallization is related to the concentrations of the solid phase and free hquid which are in intimate contac t. A model based on height-of-transfer-unit (HTU) concepts representing the composition profQe in the purification sec tion for the high-melting component of a binaiy solid-solution system has been reported by Powers et al. (in Zief and Wilcox, op. cit., p. 363) for total-reflux operation. Typical data for the purification of a solid-solution system, azobenzene-stilbene, are shown in Fig. 22-10. The column ciystallizer was operated... [Pg.1993]

This matrix approach is valuable ui the concept that the configuration of a plant at any time is represented by a vector whose elements represent the status of the components by a i for operable and a 0 for non-operable. A more refined and developed method is Bodle.m algebra. [Pg.36]

Flowever, information concerning the characteristics of these systems under the conditions of a continuous process is still very limited. From a practical point of view, the concept of ionic liquid multiphasic catalysis can be applicable only if the resultant catalytic lifetimes and the elution losses of catalytic components into the organic or extractant layer containing products are within commercially acceptable ranges. To illustrate these points, two examples of applications mn on continuous pilot operation are described (i) biphasic dimerization of olefins catalyzed by nickel complexes in chloroaluminates, and (ii) biphasic alkylation of aromatic hydrocarbons with olefins and light olefin alkylation with isobutane, catalyzed by acidic chloroaluminates. [Pg.271]

The simplified concept of a gas-liquid-particle operation used in the following analysis is illustrated in Fig. 1. By considering a differential volume element of height dz, the following material balances may be formulated for one component in the three phases ... [Pg.87]

The NSS concept corresponds to an operator attached to an arbitrary number of nested sums. In other words, a NSS represents a set of summation symbols where the number of them can be variable. In a general notation one can write a NSS as E (j=i,f,s,L) where the meaning of this convention corresponds to perform all the sums involved in the generation of all the possible values of the index vector j under the fulfillment of the set of logical expressions collected in the components of the vector L. The elements of the vector j have the following limits ... [Pg.230]

There are two (count them two) more very critical developments that come from this partitioning of sums of squares. First, the correlation coefficient is not just an arbitrarily chosen computation (or even concept), but as we have seen bears a close and fundamental relationship to the whole ANOVA concept, which is itself a very fundamental statistical operation that data is subject to. As we have seen here, all these quantities - standard deviation, correlation coefficient, and the whole process of decomposing a set of data into its component parts - are very closely related to each other, because they all represent various outcomes obtained from the fundamental process of partitioning the sums of squares. [Pg.479]

The Department of Energy Fundamentals Handbook entitled Instrumentation and Control was prepared as an information resource for personnel who are responsible for the operation of the Department s nuclear facilities. A basic understanding of instrumentation and control is necessary for DOE nuclear facility operators, maintenance personnel, and the technical staff to safely operate and maintain the facility and facility support systems. The information in the handbook is presented to provide a foundation for applying engineering concepts to the job. This knowledge will help personnel more fully understand the impact that their actions may have on the safe and reliable operation of facility components and systems. [Pg.7]
