OIL HOSE

Where a customer has suitable berthing facilities and satisfactory arrangements can be made, deliveries can be by either river or coastal tanker. River tankers currently in use are of 1860 tons capacity but may be larger if conditions permit. The customer is responsible for supplying oil hose and/or discharge arms capable of discharging the full contents of the barge under low-water conditions. [Pg.250]

Molds should be well-insulated to reduce energy costs. Insulating hardboard should be put between the mold and the clamp platens and the sides of the mold and the circulating oil hoses should be insulated as well. A typical 15-ton steel automotive fender tool, properly insulated, required 20 kw to maintain its temperature during production. [Pg.160]

Because of its exceptional resistance to fuels and hydraulic fluids, Buna-N s major area of application is in the manufacture of aircraft hose, gasoline and oil hose, and self-sealing fuel tanks. Other applications include carburetor diaphragms, gaskets, cables, printing rolls, and machinery mountings. [Pg.470]

Uses of Acrylic Rubbers. The main uses of ACM are in automotive and engineered products. Applications include seals and O-rings (for crankshafts, automatic and differential transmissions, valves, and so on) and oil hose. ACM vulcanizates are also used for roll coverings, tank linings, and fabric covering. [Pg.275]

Santoprene applications of note are a nylon-bondable grade for the General Motors GMT 800 truck air-induction system driveshaft boot in Ford-F Series trucks, giving easier assembly, lighter weight, and higher temperature resistance than the material it replaced and Santoprene cover and intermediate layers of tubing assembly for hydraulic oil hose. Nylon-bondable Santoprene TPV is coextruded with an impact modified (or pure) nylon 6 inner layer. [Pg.219]

In a plastic container the chemist dissolves her golden yellow freebase oil into some DCM, ether or ethanol. The chemist then starts a steady dripping of the sulfuric acid into the HCl/salt and white, puffy HCI gas will start to exit the glass rod or pipette which is at the end of the hose. That tip is then plunged into the sol-vent/freebase solution to bubble the gas through the solvent. [Pg.248]

Nitrile mbber finds broad application in industry because of its excellent resistance to oil and chemicals, its good flexibility at low temperatures, high abrasion and heat resistance (up to 120°C), and good mechanical properties. Nitrile mbber consists of butadiene—acrylonitrile copolymers with an acrylonitrile content ranging from 15 to 45% (see Elastomers, SYNTHETIC, NITRILE RUBBER). In addition to the traditional applications of nitrile mbber for hoses, gaskets, seals, and oil well equipment, new applications have emerged with the development of nitrile mbber blends with poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC). These blends combine the chemical resistance and low temperature flexibility characteristics of nitrile mbber with the stability and ozone resistance of PVC. This has greatly expanded the use of nitrile mbber in outdoor applications for hoses, belts, and cable jackets, where ozone resistance is necessary. [Pg.186]

PVA fiber is best fit for reinforcement of oil brake hoses for cars that require high reUabiUty, because of excellent mechanical properties and good chemical resistance to pressure—transmission Hquid contained in the hose. [Pg.342]

Heat and oil resistance coupled with its low swell have led automotive apphcations into laminated tubing and hoses (11) with this material. This resistance to the effects of ASTM No. 3 oil at service temperatures of 200°C makes it competitive with fluorocarbons and with the tetrafluoroethylene—propylene copolymer. Fluorosihcones are used to make exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) diaphragms for some passenger cars. [Pg.401]

The fluoroelastomers possess good mbber properties with the added advantages of being nonburning, hydrophobic, and solvent- and fuel-resistant. In addition to these, because of flexibiHty down to about —60° C, these polymers have been used in seals, gaskets, and hoses in army tanks, in aviation fuel lines and tanks, as well as in cold-climate oil pipeline appHcations. These polymers have also found appHcation in various types of shock mounts for vibration dampening (14,17). [Pg.257]

Typical chemical stmctures and representative sources of different classes of synthetics are given in Table 6. Properties and uses of representative synthetics foUow in Table 7. In addition to considering thek physical properties, selection is needed of appropriate paints, seals, hoses, plastics, and electrical insulation to avoid problems with the pronounced solvency and plasticizing action of many of these synthetic oils. [Pg.243]

CSM is extensively used in constmction and electrical appHcations. This includes roofing membranes, automotive ignition boots and wire, toU compounds, and in some automotive hoses requiring good heat and oil resistance, eg, air conditioning and power steering. It is also used in nuclear power plants because of its exceUent resistance to radiation degradation. [Pg.233]

Enichem and DuPont ate two suppHers of acryHc elastomers. It is estimated there ate - 9000 t/yr of these elastomers used in the United States. The principal uses of acryHc elastomers ate in automotive appHcations requiring both oil and heat resistance. These include transmission, valve stem, crankshaft, pinion, and odpan gaskets and seals. In addition hose, tubing, toUs, and belts ate made from acryHc polymers. [Pg.233]

The excellent properties of these fluoroelastomers come with a high price tag. Kalrez, for example, is extremely expensive ( 33—44/kg). These materials are used in automotive appHcations (seals, gaskets, fuel hose lines, engine parts, etc), where they can withstand under-hood temperatures. They are also used in equipment for oil and gas production and chemical processing. U.S. consumption in 1988 was 3100 t (76). [Pg.185]

Severe corrosion by turbulent mill coolant was found generally throughout a rolling-oil system. Hose couplings were severely wasted in as little as 8 weeks (Fig. 7.23A and B). Turbulence caused by high-velocity flow through nozzles accelerated attack. Attack at bends, elbows, intrusive welds, and discharge areas was also severe. [Pg.180]
