Clamping platen

Molds should be well-insulated to reduce energy costs. Insulating hardboard should be put between the mold and the clamp platens and the sides of the mold and the circulating oil hoses should be insulated as well. A typical 15-ton steel automotive fender tool, properly insulated, required 20 kw to maintain its temperature during production. [Pg.160]

Another approach to increase production is to use one parison extra long to cover two or more cavities located vertically in the mold. In fact, one parison can extend the multiparison with two or more vertical cavities. AH that is required is a machine with the capacity to handle the output from the extruder to the clamping capability. See blow molding, extruder horizontal rotary-wheel blow molding, extruder vertical rotary-wheel clamping platen, rotary clamping platen, shuttle mold cavity. [Pg.117]

Many articles require molds with large thickness and shape variations between the two mold halves because of the particular contours of the part. For such molds, particularly those having very complex (reentrant) shapes, clamping platens and molds can be sectionalized, with each section separately controlled. Thus, sectionalizing can permit blowing complex parts quickly and repeatedly. The hydraulic systems permit sections to operate at different time periods and speeds. When only two mold halves are used, they can meet at the prescribed center point at the same time. [Pg.189]

Ramp-controlled mould sealing provides for positioning on the clamping platen which is accurate to the millimetre, providing problem-free operation of the handling devices. [Pg.124]
