Pastel colors

Some type of portable background is often desirable when shooting data in the field. A light colored pastel cloth will usually give better results than black or white. [Pg.362]

White Pigments. Opaque white pigments commonly used in inks, in order of decreasing opacity, ate titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. TiO is by fat the most popular white pigment. Mixtures of whites ate often made with the various colored pigments to add opacity or to make pastel colors. [Pg.248]

Opacifiers are fine inorganic powders, usually white, that are used to reduce the transparency of ceramic gla2es and porcelain enamels. The coating becomes opaque because the particles of the opacifter scatter and reflect the incident light. When inorganic pigments are combined with white opacifiers, pastel colors are obtained. [Pg.16]

The basic resin for EPS is in the form of beads that ate expanded to a desired density before molding. Densities for packaging parts are typically 20—40 kg/m. Once expanded, the beads are fused in a steam-heated mold to form a specific shape. Most parts are molded of standard-white resins, although several pastel colors are available. [Pg.527]

As the level of opacifier is lowered in a glass system, the level of opacification drops. This yields semi-opaque glasses which allow the development of soft pastel colors. Strong colors result from clear glasses. The clarity allows the use of ceramic pigments (qv) (mixed-metal oxides) for the development of a wide variety of colors in almost any hue, saturation, and brightness. [Pg.216]

I swung by a liquor store, picked up a mini orb of Chambord, headed home and tided making my own. I ramped up the vodka, to stiffen the pastel in the palate, and topped the cocktail with a splash of sparkling cider, to give it effervescence without a cloud. I left its jewel-like color to speak for itself. [Pg.205]

The full-screen background is light blue and features the SMAC initials in varying positions and sizes so that a uniform non-distracting background is achieved, even if the active window does not fill the full screen. Use of color was restricted to visually distinguishing classes of information (pastel eolors), and to prompt the user (yellow explanation and pale yellow input fields (data)). [Pg.362]

An appreciable amount of Ti + may also exist in such samples. Indeed, materials treated at this temperature are gray, suggesting the presence of reduced forms of titania. Surface Type III Hydrogen reduction at 720 K probably produces a surface in which there is no molecular water and only a small number of hydroxyl groups. Furthermore, the surface following this treatment may have a high concentration of Ti + species. Materials treated in this manner were found to be pastel blue in color. The surface "type" of each sample is given in Table I and II. [Pg.19]

Areas of application include wood coloration [45], paper mass coloration [46] and paper surface coating in the lime press [47], the office articles and artists colors sector pigments are used in colored pencils, crayons, and writing and pastel chalks or in water colors, as well as in cosmetics, especially soap [48],... [Pg.179]

P.Y.97 is used in a variety of fields. Even in pastel shades, it is used in industrial finishes while its full shades lend color to automobile refinishes. In emulsion paints, both its medium and full shades are suited to exterior application. The printing ink industry uses P.Y.97 in high grade printing products, especially where excellent fastness is required, such as in stable posters, etc. It lends itself without difficulty to all printing techniques. However, lack of fastness to monostyrene and acetone and therefore a certain tendency to bleed in these media precludes its application in deco printing inks, i.e., for decorative laminates. [Pg.227]

In plastics, Toluidine Red is practically limited to rigid PVC. Its lightfastness in full shades and slight white reduction is fair. Besides, the pigment is also used to color a number of specific media, such as normal wax crayons and pastel chalks or low-cost watercolors. [Pg.278]

P.Y.179, an isoindolinone/cobalt complex pigment, was introduced to the market only few years ago but the production has recently been discontinued. It was recommended for use in paints, especially in automotive finishes. The pigment produces a reddish yellow shade. High lightfastness and excellent weatherfastness are an asset in pastel colors. Besides, good transparency made P.Y.179 a suitable product for metallic finishes. Yet, it is not quite as weatherfast as the equally reddish yellow P.Y.24, a flavanthrone pigment. [Pg.399]

The list of suitable applications also includes a variety of special-purpose systems, especially where high lightfastness and durability, but also high heat stability or other perfect fastness properties are a prime concern. This is true, for instance, for coatings to be applied onto aluminum window blinds. Bilaterally coated, usually in pastel colors, these aluminum strips are baked at 250°C or less and subsequently subjected to considerable mechanical stress. [Pg.534]

Many of the properties of urea plastics are similar to those of the phe nolics, but, unlike phenolics, the urea plastics are not dark and are characterized by pastel and translucent colors as well as slightly superior insulating electric properties. Urea is tetrafunctional. As shown in Figure 15.5, linear and cross-linked network products are readily produced. [Pg.192]

Natural iron oxide pigments are mostly used as inexpensive marine coatings or in coatings with a glue, oil, or lime base. They are also employed to color cement, artificial stone, and wallpaper. Ocher and sienna pigments are used in the production of crayons, drawing pastels, and chalks [3.5]. [Pg.84]

UREA-FORMALDEHYDE RESIN. An important class of amino resin. Urea and formaldehyde are united in a two-stage process in the presence of pyridine, ammonia, or certain alcohols with heat and control of pH to form intermediates (methylolurea, dimenthylolurea) that are mixed with fillers to produce molding powders. These are converted to thermosetting resins by further controlled heating and pressure in the presence of catalysts. These were first plastics that could be made in white, pastel, and colored products. See also Amino Acids Melamine. [Pg.1653]
