Camptothecin (Fig. 4), a quinoline alkaloid, is a potent anti-neoplastic agent that inhibits DNA topoisomerase I. Accumulation of up to 8 mg of camptothecin/L was reported for hairy root cultures of Ophiorriza pumila transformed with A. rhizogenes.
