Need a Place

So far, you have gathered information. You know what you need to learn. You have thought about techniques to help you absorb what you are learning. Now it s time to think about the setting in which you are going to study and what kinds of things will enhance your learning experience. [Pg.16]

You know that to do your best work, especially when you are studying, you must be focused, alert, and calm. Your undivided attention must be on the task at hand. That means you have to set up your study time and study place with much consideration. [Pg.16]

Where do I like to work Where do I feel comfortable and free from distractions  [Pg.17]

If you have a desk in your living space, you may be used to studying there. If it s set up for your comfort and convenience (with all your study materials at hand) and if it is well-lit, then it s an obvious choice for you. [Pg.17]

Maybe you usually work at the dining room table or the kitchen counter. Sometimes, it can be hard to avoid distractions in shared living areas. If you share a living space, you may find it best to study away from home, perhaps at the local library or coffee shop. If you are currently in school, remember that you are adding your GRE preparation time to your usual study schedule. Try to anticipate if this might create any scheduling conflicts with your normal study space. [Pg.17]

Drunk or sober, they were fresh. I was winded and already feeling the loss of blood. I wasn t going to win a race and their shouts would alert any other group ahead of me. I needed a place to hide. The best Samaritans Venice possessed would not rescue a blood-soaked fugitive from the night without asking a lot of questions first. [Pg.58]

Each patient needs a place to retreat to when he feels threatened. This place of his own can serve its function even if it is quite limited in size. [Pg.390]

E. Because the computer needs a place to store instructions and data in a quickly and easily retrievable format, the memory system is the most important component. [Pg.149]

Follow the evacuation routes provided. If you need a place to stay, congregate care information will be provided. [Pg.211]

Haukelid thought fast. The situation was awkward, but not dangerous. He told the watchman they were escaping the Gestapo and needed a place to hide ... [Pg.516]

A-scans with a visual evaluation by the tester to be of little significance. New measuring-data-evaluation-procedures were needed to place additional information at the testers disposal. [Pg.752]

One subtle, but major noise source is the output rectifier. The shape of the reverse recovery characteristic of the rectifiers has a direct affect on the noise generated within the supply. The abruptness or sharpness of the reverse recovery current waveform is often a major source of high-frequency noise. An abrupt recovery diode may need a snubber placed in parallel with it in order to lower its high-frequency spectral characteristics. A snubber will cost the designer in efficiency. Finding a soft recovery rectifier will definitely be an advantage in the design. [Pg.244]

The ISO definition states that quality assurance is all those planned and systematic actions necessary to provide adequate confidence that an entity will fulfill requirements for quality. Both customers and managers have a need for quality assurance as they are not in a position to oversee operations for themselves. They need to place trust in the producing operations, thus avoiding constant intervention. [Pg.37]

Logically, a representative carries the wishes of the people they represent to a place where decisions are taken that affect them - this is the case for Members of Parliament, Union Representatives, Committee Members, etc. The note would appear to address the need for representation outside the business. Inside the business, the representative represents management to the workforce but not in the same sense. The person carries the wishes of management (i.e. the policies) to the workforce so that the workforce makes decisions that take into account the wishes of management. [Pg.131]

The requirements for product approval are defined in the reference manuals. You may not need to prepare product approval submissions for all the parts you supply. The applicability of product approval procedures is affected by several factors so definitive solutions cannot be offered. The fundamental requirement is that if you supply product to the automotive customers you need a product approval procedure in place to gain ISO/TS 16949 registration. If you have been supplying parts for some time without product approval then you should confirm with your customer that you may continue to do so. [Pg.210]

Quite why this requirements was necessary is a mystery as it duplicates that given in clause 4.18.1. However, in case anyone is in any doubt that the design team has to be qualified, this requirement draws attention to it so that suppliers will need a process in place to ensure unqualified designers are precluded and that auditors will check that designers are qualified. [Pg.242]

A list of potential bidders can be generated from the Assessed Subcontractors List by searching for subcontractors that match given input criteria specific to the particular procurement. However, the evidence you gathered to place subcontractors on your Assessed Subcontractors List may now be obsolete. Their capability may have changed and therefore you need a sorting process for specific purchases. If candidates are selected that have not been assessed, an assessment should be carried out before proceeding any further. [Pg.317]

A problem you may find is that the customer changes the order quantity or the delivery date after you have scheduled production and the only way you can meet the prescribed schedule is to pay a premium for shipment. Providing you notify the customer in advance and obtain authorization to alter the mode of transportation there should not be a problem. However, you need a process in place to ensure this happens. [Pg.487]

A variation of the general method for the synthesis of 2-amino-selenazoles is to avoid the use of the free a-halogenocarbonyl compound and in its place react the corresponding ketone and iodine with selenourea. This procedure is also taken from thiazole chemistry. By contrast with thiourea, the reaction with selenourea needs a longer reaction time and the work up of the reaction mixture is somewhat more difficult. Usually an excess of the ketone is used. In the preparation of 2-amino-4-( n-nitrophenyl)selenazole, a very high yield, calculated on the amount of iodine used, was obtained. To explain this peculiar result, the oxidative action of the nitro group was invoked. This liberates free iodine from some of the hydrogen iodide eliminated in the condensation reaction, and the free iodine then re-enters into the reaction. [Pg.348]

We set out with the idea that, in the vicinity of each ion in solution there is likely to be a certain amount of electrostriction—a certain shrinkage of the solvent caused by the attraction between the ionic charge and the polar molecules. In order to estimate from experimental data how much shrinkage, if any, has taken place, we must start with a correct idea of what would have been the volume of the solution, if no shrinkage had taken place. In making a comparative study of various solutes, we need a common basis for comparison. Since this is not provided by the volumes of the crystalline solids, we may try a different approach. We may compare the addition of any pair of ions to the solvent with the addition of a pair of solvent molecules. [Pg.190]

Everyone thinks of himself as a good observer. Yet there is much more to it than meets the eye. It takes concentration, alertness to detail, ingenuity, and often just plain patience. It even takes practice Consider an example from your own experience. Think how much can be written about an object as familiar as a burning candle Of course, it takes careful observation—a careful experiment. This means the candle must be observed in a laboratory, that is, in a place where conditions can be controlled. But, how do we know which conditions need be controlled Be ready for surprises here Sometimes the important conditions are difficult to discover. Here are some conditions that are important in some experiments but are not important here. [Pg.2]

To build their structures and to carry out the myriad biochemical reactions that take place within their cells, organisms need a source of energy. The needed energy is obtained via biochemical pathways driven either by sunlight or by energy contained in reduced chemical compounds. [Pg.31]

Keogh (1991) asked high performing first year university students what components they would need to hypothetically construct a lithium atom. One replied that they would need a nucleus, three electrons and an electron cloud. On further investigation, it turned out that this student perceived a need for the electron cloud as a place for the electrons to be put. Despite a remedial discussion, this student demonstrated the same conception several months later. [Pg.17]

Again students are expected to realise that this does not represent a stand-alone chemical process, and electrons are not found free under usual conditions, and so this process would need to be coupled with one that provides a place for the electron to go. Students may meet this process as part of a simple redox process (say with the reduction of a less reactive metal), or as one component of the analysis of a more complex process using Hess s law to find an enthalpy change by aggregating the enthalpy terms of an indirect route. [Pg.95]

First, teachers need to be made aware of the need to place greater emphasis on the purposeful use of multiple levels of representation when describing and explaining chemical phenomena during classroom instraction. All too often teachers take for granted that students are able to switch back and forth with ease between different levels of representation. The findings of this study have shown that students competence in the use of the triplet relationship to describe and explain chemical reactions was enhanced as a result of the instraction. [Pg.166]
