Method validation seeks to quantify the likely accuracy of results by assessing both systematic and random effects on results. The properly related to systematic errors is the trueness, i.e. the closeness of agreement between the average value obtained from a large set of test results and an accepted reference value. The properly related to random errors is precision, i.e. the closeness of agreement between independent test results obtained under stipulated conditions. Accnracy is therefore, normally studied as tmeness and precision. [Pg.230]

Peracids form as transient species from the oxidation of benzaldehyde during autoxidation. For convenience we have chosen m-chloroperbenzoic acid (MCPBA) as our oxidant since this would be similar to the peracid formed from the very important intermediate 4-carboxybenzaldehyde formed during the oxidation of p-xylene (2). It is important in thermal analysis, as for any other analytical techniques, to obtain reproducible results. However, there are many experimental variables associated with thermal analysis and it is necessary to define at least five of these for each thermal analysis investigation. These five variables are the nature of the sample and its container (crucible), the heating (or cooling) rate, the sample-chamber atmosphere, and the sample mass. Some thermal analysis techniques require the recording of other variables, such as the load on the sample in thermomechanical analysis.
