National Institute of Bioscience and

PERM acronym derived from the former name of the Fermentation Research Institute (FRI), in Japan, which later became the Patent Microorganism Depository of the National Institute of Bioscience and Human Technology (NIBH). As previously mentioned, the Budapest Treaty requires deposition of the biological material subject to a patent application. In Japan and some other countries, an applicant for a patent concerning a microorganism has to submit a receipt of that deposition to the Patent Office at filing. The depository checks viability and would furnish a sample of the microorganism to a third party only for study and research, under the established rules of the treaty. [Pg.246]

Inspired by this work (24), we used Bayesian methods (24) with molecular function class fingerprints of maximum diameter 6 (53) to identify substructures that were shown to be important in recent TB screening datasets (21-23). Bayesian models were built with the previously described Molecular Libraries Small Molecule Repository (MLSMR) 220,463 library (4,096 active compounds) (15) and dose-response data using 2,273 molecules (475 active compounds). In addition, these models were tested (15) with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) data and GVK Biosciences (Hyderabad, India) datasets used by Prathipati et al. (24). We have validated the models with compounds left out of the original models, in some cases showing up to tenfold enrichments in finding active compounds in the top-ranked 600 molecules (22). [Pg.251]

Professor ChulHee Kang received his B.Sc. (physics and microhiology, 1980) and M.S. (microbiology, 1982) from Seoul National University and his Ph.D. (biophysics, 1987) from the University of California, Berkeley. He then pursued his postdoctoral studies at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (1988—89) with Dr. Sun-Hou Kim and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1989-92) with Dr. Alexander Rich. After 2 years as a research scientist in the Department of Biology at MIT, he became an assistant professor (1994—99), associate professor (1999-2002), and the Edward Meier Distinguished Professor of Biophysics (2002-present) in the School of Molecular Biosciences at Washington State University. [Pg.603]
