Main goals of the conference are to survey a status of modern analytical science in Ukraine against the global one, to renew intemational collaboration of Ukrainian analytical chemists and educators, and to approach positions of scientists and analytical engineers. 

It is great that AC CA-05 took place in 2005. This year Ukraine demonstrates Eurointegration policy and we are in the vanguard of this process. In 2004 Analytical Chemistry Council NAS of Ukraine becomes a member of European Association for Chemical and Molecular Sciences. AC CA-05 is the next step towards Eurointegration of Ukrainian analytical science. The first steps are always hard to make. We tried to do our best... Thanks all participants for coming to AC CA-05. 

Discrimination between the enantiomers of a racemic mixture is a complex task in analytical sciences. Because enantiomers differ only in their structural orientation, and not in their physico-chemical properties, separation can only be achieved within an environment which is unichiral. Unichiral means that a counterpart of the race-mate to be separated consists of a pure enantiomeric form, or shows at least enrichment in one isomeric form. Discrimination or separation can be performed by a wide variety of adsorption techniques, e.g. chromatography in different modes and electrophoresis. As explained above, the enantioseparation of a racemate requires a non-racemic counterpart, and this can be presented in three different ways ... 

Resolution is a term encountered in many areas of analytical science and refers to the abihty to differentiate between closely related signals. In mass spectrometry, these signals are the m/z ratios of the ions, with the resolution being defined mathematically as follows ...

Established in 1894, AOAC International is an independent association of scientists and organizations in the public and private sectors devoted to promoting methods validation and quality measurements in the analytical sciences. AOAC has a mission to ensure the development, testing, validation, and publication of reliable chemical and biological methods of analysis for foods, drugs, feed-stuffs, fertilizers, pesticides, water, forensic materials and other substances affecting public health and safety and the environment. 

We both felt from the beginning of our co-operation that we should spend a significant part of our scientific life to the improvement of analytical science, particu-lary the reliability of methods . 

Validation may mean different things to different people, depending on the context and the application of analytical science. For food control and monitoring purposes, it is generally expected that validation includes the establishment of performance characteristics and evidence that the method fits the respective purpose. ... 

The development of sensitive and inexpensive immunoassays for low molecular weight pesticides has been an important trend in environmental and analytical sciences during the past two decades. 0.27-29 jq design an immunoassay for a pesticide, one can rely on the immunoassay literature for agrochemicals, " but many of the innovations in clinical immunoanalysis are also directly applicable to environmental analysis. - Conversely, the exquisite sensitivity required and difficult matrices present for many environmental immunoassay applications have forced the development of technologies that are also useful in clinical immunoassay applications. In the following discussion we will describe widely accepted procedures for the development of pesticide immunoassays.
