Muller studies

K Muller studied the effectiveness of various lubricants, including free molybdenum disulphide powder, in preventing fretting. His assessment of effectiveness was based on the friction energy per cycle, which is not in fact a satisfactory criterion for prevention of fretting. He found that initially molybdenum disulphide powder was very effective in reducing friction, but subsequently there was a steady deterioration until the performance was almost identical with that in unlubricated tests. [Pg.133]

A prerequisite of oral drug delivery by SLN is, however, a sufficient stability of the carrier system in the gastrointestinal fluids itself. Zimmermann and Muller studied different SLN formulations with respect to their GIT stability. No general conclusion could be drawn and aggregation and instability seems to be dependent on the lipid matrix as well as on the stabilizer system. A minimum of 8-9 mV zeta potential together with steric stabilization was found to be the prerequisites for SLN stability in the GIT.205... [Pg.427]

The field emission microscope (FEM), invented in 1936 by Muller [59, 60], has provided major advances in the structural study of surfaces. The subject is highly developed and has been reviewed by several groups [2, 61, 62], and only a selective, introductory presentation is given here. Some aspects related to chemisorption are discussed in Chapter XVII. [Pg.299]

The airflow pattern in rooms ventilated by linear attached jets with L/H ratio greater than that for effectively ventilated rooms was studied by Schwenke and Muller. The results of their air velocity measurements ami visualization studies indicate that there are secondary vortexes formed downstream in the room and in the room corners. The number of downstream vortexes and their size depend upon the room length (Fig. 736b). Mas,s transfer between the primary vortex and the secondary vortex depends upon the difference in characteristic air velocities in the corresponding flows (/, and Ui and can be described using the Stanton number, St . ... [Pg.478]

Asymmetric ring-opening of saturated epoxides by organoctiprates has been studied, hut only low enantioselectivities f -c 1596 ee) have so far been obtained [49, 50]. Muller et al., for example, have reported that tlie reaction between cyclohexene oxide and MeMgBr, catalyzed by 1096 of a chiral Schiffhase copper complex, gave froiis-2-metliylcyclohexanol in 5096 yield and with 1096 ee [50]. [Pg.283]

The structure and composition of the lithium surface layers in carbonate-based electrolytes have been studied extensively by many investigators [19-37], High reactivity of propylene carbonate (PC) to the bare lithium metal is expected, since its reduction on an ideal polarizable electrode takes place at much more positive potentials compared with THF and 2Me-THF [18]. Thevenin and Muller [29] found that the surface layer in LiC104/PC electrolyte is a mixture of solid Li2C03 and a... [Pg.424]

Alkynes can also be arylated by the Meerwein procedure, as shown by Muller in 1949. The reaction of buta-l-en-3-yne (Scheme 10-47) was studied by Kheruze and Petrov (1960). Arylation at an sp2-hybridized carbon is obviously considerably faster than the analogous reaction at an sp-hybridized carbon. A mechanistically interesting case of a Meerwein reaction with phenylacetylene will be discussed later in this section. [Pg.246]

The kinetics of these oligomerizations initiated by a-lithio-methylisobutyrate (monomeric living polymethyl methacrylate) was reported by Muller et al. 50). A modified flow-tube technique, that permits to follow the polymerization for times as short as 0.02 s, was employed in this study. The reaction was performed in THF at... [Pg.106]

Absorption kinetics of trichloroethylene are often monitored by measuring levels in the blood during and after exposure. Volunteers who inhaled 100 ppm for 6 hours showed a peak blood trichloroethylene level of approximately 1 pg/L after 2 hours (Muller et al. 1974). These levels fell rapidly when exposure ceased. Trichloroethylene levels in blood and breath increased rapidly in another study after initiation of a 4-hour exposure to 100 ppm, reaching near steady-state within an hour from the start of the exposure (Sato and... [Pg.110]

Several studies of tissue distribution in humans after inhalation exposure to trichloroethylene report levels in the blood (Astrand and Ovrum 1976 Monster et al. 1976 Muller et al. 1974). Once in the bloodstream, trichloroethylene may be transported rapidly to various tissues where it will likely be metabolized. Trichloroethylene was detected in the blood of babies at birth after the mothers had received trichloroethylene anesthesia (Laham 1970), and detectable levels (concentrations not reported) have been found in the breast milk of mothers living in urban areas (Pellizzari et al. 1982). Post-mortem analyses of human tissue from persons with unspecified exposure revealed detectable levels of trichloroethylene (<1-32 pg/kg wet tissue) in most organs (McConnell et al. 1975). The relative proportions varied among individuals, but the major sites of distribution appeared to be body fat and the liver. [Pg.114]

Natural systems may be quite complex. For example, the enantiomerization of phenoxyalkanoic acids containing a chiral side chain has been studied in soil using H20 (Buser and Muller 1997). It was shown that there was an equilibrium between the R- and 5-enantiomers of both 2-(4-chloro-2-methylphenoxy)propionic acid (MCPP) and 2-(2,4-dichlorophenopxy)propionic acid (DCPP) with an equilibrium constant favoring the herbicidally active / -enantiomers.
