Since patient/market/legislative data have to be incorporated in modem product presentation, it is essential that the text remain legible throughout the shelf life. Printed material should be scuff abrasion tested, under agreed conditions, to meet visual standards of performance.

For existing ships the only NDE method nominated by classification for the detection of fatigue cracks is close-up visual inspection - although all Surveyors have the option of requesting additional NDE when warranted. The sensitivity of visual inspection is influenced by the degree of surface preparation and the level of lighting at the inspected surface - which may not always meet the level of 500 lux nominated by some NDE specifications. 

Miscellaneous Types. Various decorative effects have been developed which meet specific aesthetic requirements. These laminates may have special visual appeal, such as gloss finish, deeply embossed textures, and metallic surfaces. They are designed for specific installations and may not be suitable for all apphcations. For this reason, they are not included in these standards. The role of chemical technology in printing is also changing. Whereas a need exists for hard copy, whether for visual, legal, or historical reasons, the hard copy must meet new standards of performance, including visual and environmental. Many traditional printing processes have become unacceptable in the workplace, and are being replaced by processes that are water-based, dry, desktop, or in some other ways more convenient. 

Sepa.ra.tedRecyclables. Even when initial separation of recyclables takes place at the household level, the separated materials stiU requite some preparation before being sent to market. By visually inspecting materials, facihty processors are able to remove any remaining contaminants. This ensures that recyclables will be of sufficient quahty to meet buyer specifications. In addition, materials are often shredded, cmshed, or baled to facihtate cost-effective shipping. 

Personnel performing examinations other than visual shall be qualified in accordance with applicable portions of SNT TC-IA, Recommended Practice for Nondestructive Testing Personnel Qualification and Ceitification. Procedures shall be qualified as required in Par. T-150, Art. 1, Sec. Vof the ASME Code. Limitations on imperfections shall be in accordance with the engineering design but shall at least meet the requirements of the code (see Tables 10-58 and 10-59) for the specific type of examination. Repairs shall be made as applicable. 

Methods of analysis based on the use of different sensor systems -eleetroehemieal, optie, fluorimetrie, instmmental and visual - mostly meet sueh requirements.
