Present production processes use two stage counter-current extraction to remove americium from molten plutonium with magnesium chloride based salts. Both 35 mole % NaCl - 35 mole % KC1 - 3D mole % MgCl2 and 50 mole % NaCl-26 mole % CaCl2 - 24 mole % Mg Cl 2 are used for americium extraction. Figures 4 and 5 show the ternary phase diagrams for these salt systemsU0).

Many hydrocolloids may fulfill one or several of the requirements of a fully balanced ice cream stabilizer and still present production problems. For this reason most stabilizers are blends of several hydrocolloids provided for the specific type of frozen confection being manufactured. Soft-served ice cream and ice milk present other production and distribution problems and require substantially different blends of gums. Many studies and comments have been made on the types and levels of hydrocolloids used for stabilizing ice cream, ice milk, and mellorine (5, 6, 8, 15, 16, 2Ir 27). 

In the present study, the TEA is a PTA but not a PTC since it has been found to react with both of the metal-containing reactants. For the present products, TEA-containing moieties have been indicated employing both infrared and mass spectroscopies (24).

The purity of the acidic isomer is best determined 5 by titration against sodium methoxide in dimethylformamide, using potentiometric indicator. This test showed the present product to be free of basic isomer. 

For most of the compounds considered, their environmental presence may not only result from direct release during present production or use but also from historical production and use, natural formation or transformation of other products. Therefore, to derive predicted environmental concentrations (PECs), data collected during analytical monitoring programmes are preferred to modelling data provided they are reliable and representative [1].

In 1948, three small oil fields produced 876,000 barrels per year, and in 1956, with the discovery of oil in Xinjiang, China s oil production rose to 22 million b/year. China was a net importer of oil until 1963. Her Chemical Industry did not really really take off until 1973, when oil from the fields in North China started to flow. China s Chemical Industry is still in the embryonic states. Given the present production level of 2.3 million barrels/day, China has finally entered the petrochemical era. She has developed a credible, if still thin, infrastructure, research backup, and downstream integration for its petrochemical industry.

It is therefore certain that research to find improved methods of sulfur removal will continue, with emphasis being given to those products for which consumer interests are most pressing. Recent evidence of diminution of sulfur supplies in the United States, as well as the desire of other countries to minimize purchase of dollar sulfur, may add impetus to the search for new methods of sulfur removal and recovery. The tonnages of sulfur in present production of crude petroleum, excluding natural gas, are given in Table VII. It shows that the potential availability is very high. 

Years supply computed on 1950 production. These figures do not signify—especially as to oil production— that present production rates could be continued for stated number of years from present known reserves. 

Another oxo plant, now being constructed, will make butyl compounds (88). These may be the source of butyl alcohol, butyl acetate, butyric acid for the manufacture of cellulose acetate butyrate and other products, butyraldehyde for polyvinyl butyral, and the eight-carbon compounds including 2-ethylhexanol. All these will add to the present production of the same compounds made by the older methods from acetaldehyde via aldol condensation. 

Another significant trend is the current program to increase the production of benzene from petroleum 16). Increasing requirements for the production of styrene, phenol, and other intermediates have made it essential that new sources be found to supplement current supplies of this aromatic hydrocarbon, and the only apparent source is from petroleum processes. To meet current needs of the military and civilian program the United States Petroleum Administration for Defense has been asked to increase petroleum benzene from the current rate of 12,000,000 gallons to 100,000,000 gallons per year 84). Present production from petroleum is small in comparison with that from other sources, but these proposed expansions may add materially to the output of petroleum-derived intermediates that will ultimately go to the manufacture of plastics and synthetic rubber.

The emulsion encapsulation system is superior to the present production technique(hot water slurry technique). 

Some new products can be sold immediately, particularly if they are closely related to present product lines or are developed to meet competition. In the case of a new plastic you never know whether you have a good product until someone is willing to pay for it. A product can be developed, the market located and described, and a profitable future predicted, but this will all be an academic exercise unless the product is sold. 

Putting more ozone into the atmosphere to replace that which has been destroyed is a bit like throwing more fish into a pool of sharks to replace those fish that have been eaten. The solution is to remove the CFCs that destroy the ozone. Unfortunately, CFCs only degrade slowly and the ones up there now will remain there for many years to come. Our best bet is to stop the present production of CFCs and hope that we haven t already caused too much damage. 

Commercial white oak furnished 90% of all tight cooperage in the United States as early as 1908 (3). Tight cooperage reached its maximum production in the United States in 1929 at nearly 107 million m3 of wood consumed, dropped until 1952, and then rose slightly to about 26 million m3 in 1962 (33). Present production is believed similar. These figures illustrate the decline in the use of wooden cooperage, but they also indicate that, with less demand for barrels and their use primarily for premium products, the oak used can be restricted to the best. The situation in Europe appears similar. 

The industry continues to research improvements in the present production cells. Special attention is being focused on developing inert anodes and cathodes. Ferrites may find use as inert anodes, while titanium diboride may become the optimum material for cathodes. Before commercial use of inert electrodes can be achieved, cell sidewall materials must be developed which will withstand extremely reactive conditions and further improvements (i.e., less solubility of the anode and cathode materials are required). Over the past 15 years, American and Canadian aluminum producers have channeled nearly 1.5 billion into manufacturing technology research, the modernization and computerization of plant facilities, and new and better applications for the metal.
