Senile Amyloidosis. Senile amyloid protein is found most often in the heart (senile cardiac amyloid), but also in the pancreas and brain. Calcitonin is a useful marker for medullary carcinoma of the thyroid, which occurs both sporadically and as a dominantly inherited disease.
