Medical clearance

A visitor policy should be established in the SSAHP. Visitors and representatives from government and other organizations should be specifically mentioned. Zones that visitors can tour, and the circumstances under which the visitor may tour a zone, should be specified in the plan. If someone needs to go into an exclusion zone, those persons must have the appropriate orientation, safety training, medical clearance, and meet any other requirements mentioned in the SSAHP. [Pg.187]

Subjects were primarily young female adults, undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Nebraska. All were assumed to be in good health and received medical clearance for participation prior to the start of each study from the University of Nebraska Division of Student Health Services. The project was approved by the University of Nebraska Institutional Review Board Involving the Protection of Human Subjects. [Pg.177]

The Candidate Physical Ability Test is the next step in the process for many fire departments some put this step first. You should expect to have a medical clearance, or at the very least sign a medical waiver stating that you are in good enough shape to undertake this stressful test, before you will be allowed to participate. The fire department wants to make sure that no one has a heart attack in the middle of the test. So, you can expect the test to be tough. [Pg.30]

On completion of an RIT assignment, all personnel shall report to the rehab sector for medical clearance prior to returning to RIT staging. [Pg.309]

Similarly, Palmer had insured his brother Walter s life. It is widely accepted that Palmer was defrauding the insurance companies as he actually employed someone to keep Walter sober while medical clearance was obtained for the insurance to be validated. Walter died soon after and the money went to Palmer. As with Annie, Walter s body was ordered to be exhumed when Palmer was awaiting trial for the... [Pg.1854]

For this author, it was an honor and a great privilege and pleasure (personal and professional) to serve with Clifton Dexter Howe for two decades at the Department of Medicine of the young MDACCC (Howe CD Sinkovics JG A retrospective analysis of preoperative medical clearances and life-threatening infections (endotoxin-shock included) in patients with cancer. Review and compliance with any medical clearance policy. [Pg.324]

On one particular remote worksite in the Midwest, one new hire showed up for work without obtaining a medical authorization through the company-approved physician. The FLS turned him away, restating that he would have to have medical clearance before being allowed to start to work. As it turned out, the potential new hire had gone for his physical exam, but the company physician wanted to have a variety of other tests successfully completed before the company physician would deem the potential new hire fit for duty. [Pg.238]

A situation similar to this example repeats itself many times daily in the normal course of business. We have a worker who wants to work, but who is not deemed fit for duty by a company physician. Further testing may result in the clearance for duty, or it may not. One situation we want to avoid is allowing someone to perform work without proper authorization. In the previous example, the team member was very unhappy about being asked to leave the worksite because of a lack of medical clearance. In this team member s logic, he had already proven that he was fit to perform the job. After all, he had been performing it successfully until his less than acceptable fitness for duty was discovered. He expressed with vehemence that there was absolutely no reason not to allow him to continue. [Pg.239]

As with other safety programs, the respiratory protection program should be written and communicated to all affected employees. Include a sample request for medical clearance for respirator use and a sample respirator use and maintenance record form in the written program. [Pg.95]

Open areas around the operating units of a plant act as buffers to the surrounding community. Sufficient clearance should be allowed so that, if tall stmctures coUapse, other on-site buildings or equipment, or off-site properties are not affected. Adequate roadways providing entry to the plant are extremely important, and multiple entries and exits are advisable. An overcrowded plant can lead to damage or shutdown of adjacent units and may impede the movement of vehicles and materials in case of emergency (85). Another consideration is community fire-fighting assistance, first aid, and medical facihties. [Pg.98]

Maintenance doses widely vary among patients (e.g., from 1 to 20 mg/day for warfarin), and are influenced by diet (variable vitamin K intake) and medications that affect coumarin metabolism (decreased drug clearance e.g., cotrimoxazole, amiodarone, erythromycin increased clearance e.g., barbiturates, carbamaze-pine, rifampin). Thus, regular monitoring is needed... [Pg.109]

Investigations of devices that have already received FDA-clearance due to the fact that they were already on the market before medical devices were regulated or were shown to be substantially equivalent to one. [Pg.191]

Use of zileuton is uncommon due to the need for dosing four times a day, potential drug interactions, and the potential for hepatotoxicity with the resulting need for frequent monitoring of liver enzymes. In patients started on zileuton, serum alanine aminotransferase concentrations should be monitored before treatment begins, monthly for the first 3 months, every 2 to 3 months for the remainder of the first year, and then periodically thereafter for as long as the patient continues to receive the medication. Zileuton also inhibits the cytochrome P-450 (CYP) mixed function enzyme system and has been shown to decrease the clearance of theophylline, R-warfarin and propranolol.34... [Pg.222]

If performed appropriately airway clearance techniques provide similar clearance results, so choice should be based on patient preference and compliance. Airway clearance therapy is typically performed once or twice daily for maintenance care and is increased to three or four times per day for acute exacerbations. Inhaled medications are usually given with the therapies and will be discussed in a later section. [Pg.249]

Although most CF patients have shorter half-lives and larger volumes of distribution than non-CF patients, some patients exhibit decreased clearance. Possible causes include concomitant use of nephrotoxic medications, presence of diabetic nephropathy, history of transplantation (with immunosuppressant use and/or procedural hypoxic injury), and age-related decline in renal function in older adult patients. Additionally, CF patients are repeatedly exposed to multiple courses of IV aminoglycosides, which can result in decreased renal function. Evaluation of previous pharmacokinetic parameters and trends, along with incorporation of new health information, is key to providing appropriate dosage recommendations. [Pg.252]

Assess adherence to the prescribed regimen, including timing of inhaled medications with respect to airway clearance therapies and timing of enzymes and insulin with regard to meals. Is the patient taking any medications not prescribed by the CF center team ... [Pg.255]

The splanchnic system drains venous blood from the GI tract to the liver. In portal hypertension there is increased resistance to drainage from the originating organ so collateral vessels (varices) develop in the esophagus, stomach, and rectum to compensate for the increased blood volume. Varices divert blood meant for hepatic circulation back to the systemic circulation this has the unintended deleterious effect of decreasing clearance of medications and potential toxins through loss of first-pass metabolism. Varices are weak superficial vessels, and any additional increase in pressure can cause these vessels to rupture and bleed.15... [Pg.326]

In patients who have failed initial therapy (i.e., salvage), liposomal amphotericin products, itraconazole, or the echinocandin caspofungin can be used. Itraconazole has a response rate of approximately 40%.100 Oral itraconazole exhibits erratic absorption the IV formulation is suspended in cyclodextrin, which is eliminated renally, and thus IV itraconazole should be avoided in patients with a creatinine clearance of less than 30 mL/minute (0.29 mL/s m2).103 Itraconazole also has negative inotropic cardiac effects and increases the serum concentrations of medications (e.g., cyclophosphamide, etopo-side, calcineurin inhibitors, and sirolimus). [Pg.1462]
