Mass spectrometry reflectron

The chemical compositions of the isolated Au SR clusters were investigated by mass spectrometry [15,16,18, 22,32-35]. TEM was used to confirm that the species detected by the mass spectrometer represents the clusters in the sample. Figure 3a is a schematic representation of the top view of the mass spectrometer, which consists of five stages of differentially pumped vacuum chambers. The apparatus accommodates two t5 pes of ion sources, electrospray ionization (ESI) and laser-desorption ionization (EDI), and a time-of-flight (TOE) mass spectrometer with a reflectron. Details of the apparatus and the measurement protocols are described below. [Pg.376]

Matrix assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight (MALDI-TOE) mass spectrometry was carried out with a PerSeptive Biosystems Voyager-DE-RP MALDl-TOF mass spectrometer. A 337-nm UV nitrogen laser producing 3-ns pulses was used in the reflectron mode. The samples were prepared by mixing 10 pi of a 0.1 M HAc solution of the sample with 20 pi of a solution of 3 mg/1 a-cyano-4-hydroxy cinnamic acid in wafer. One pi of that solution was loaded on the gold-sample plate. [Pg.78]

Until now, most studies of dissociation dynamics of metastable cluster ions have been made using a double-focusing mass spectrometry method (Lifshitz et al. 1990 Lifshitz and Louage 1989, 1990 Stace 1986). As discussed herein, the novel technique of reflectron time-of-flight mass spectrometry is a valuable alternative approach to more standard methods. With carefully designed experiments, it is possible to derive both kinetic energy releases and decay fractions for... [Pg.198]

The mass spectrometry analysis was performed by the matrix assisted laser desorption/ionisation time-of-flight (S8-MALDI) technique using a Voyager-DE PRO Biospectrometry Workstation (Applied Biosystems, USA). Radiation pulses of 0.5 ns and 3 Hz frequency from N2 laser operating at 337 nm were used to desorb the species and negative/positive ions formed were detected in reflectron mode. Sulfur used as a matrix material was also dissolved in toluene and mixed with the samples solution prior to deposition onto a target. [Pg.244]
