Management systems safety aspects

Reliability is obvionsly one of the features of a safe product. It is the fulfillment of its working/nser properties with respect to its stated reqnirements as defined in its technical conditions or mannals. It is, therefore, only natnral that there are a number of common aspects and mntnal links between qnality management systems, safety of technical systems management, and occupational health and safety management. 

ISO 8402 defines the notion of quality as a summary of an object s features regarding its capability to meet stated and expected requirements. In this sense, we might mention that safety is one of the elements of quality. Hence, it is only natural that there are a number of common aspects and mutual links between quality management systems, safety management of technical systems, and occupational health and safety, that is, risk management, that have recently expanded in the area of environmentalism. 

As part of the contracting and system development process, the government develops the SSMP to guide all system safety aspects of the project. The contractor develops an SSPP that defines how the contractor plans to implement an SSP that meets the objectives and requirements set forth in the contract and the government SSMP. The SSPP should be a direct reflection of the SSMP, with more detail. In essence, the SSMP establishes the safety management process, and the SSPP establishes the safety program execution process by the contractor. Each plan will contain both management and technical aspects of the SSP. 

This model is unique in its description of what constitutes a management system, and its effort to address the planning, organizing, implementing, and control aspects of process safety management systems. 

Quality Management system priorities to consider are management responsibility, quality system principles, auditing, contract review, design control, corrective action, document control, quality records, training, product safety and liability, and statistical techniques, because these are critical aspects of the Quality Management system where Xmple Inc. already has some systems in place. 

Once past the discovery and initial development stages, the safety assessment aspects of the process become extremely tightly connected with the other aspects of the development of a compound, particularly the clinical aspects. These interconnections are coordinated by project management systems. At many times during the early years of the development process, safety assessment constitutes the rate-limiting step it is, in the language of project management, on the critical path. 

As the Figure 4.1 flowchart implies, managing chemical reactivity hazards starts with a management system. To prevent incidents, a facility must not only be well designed, but also properly operated and maintained. A commitment to safety from all levels of management is essential, to ensure that all safety aspects receive adequate priority. The major change is in Section 4.3.1 - Environmental Aspects under ISO 14001 and Planning for hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control under OHSAS 18001. OHSAS is much more detailed and prescriptive in how hazards are identified, and how risks are identified, assessed and controlled compared to how aspects and impacts are managed under ISO 14001. The environmental benefits derived from implementation of ISO14001 would similarly be expected to be realized by including occupational health and safety into the applicability of an environmental management system. For the record, many organizations have chosen to add occupational health and safety into the scope of their ISO 14001 EMS. 

In modem cars, microsensors play an essential and increasingly important role as the interface between the vehicle, with its complex functions of motor management, chassis systems, safety, as well as comfort and convenience on the one hand, and the respective electronic control units on the other hand. Microsensors need to function in a harsh environment over the entire lifetime of an automobile. Therefore reliability aspects have come more and more into the focus of engineering and research activities in microsystem technology.
