Another point of interest is that the brain expresses more of the total genetic information in its DNA than does any other organ, perhaps 10-20 times as much. Thus, in addition to the metabolic and maintenance machinery shared by most cell types, neurons contain many unique macromolecules, including enzymes, ion channels, neurotransmitters, and receptors that are not found in other cells. Flow rate changes are sometimes used in the design of local exhaust systems. An example of this is the use of dampers, blastgates, or valves that are interlocked with the machinery of interest. When the tool is on, the damper is opened and air is exhausted from that hood. When the tool is off, the damper is closed and more exhaust air is available to other parts of the system. The heaviest products obtained directly from oil arc lubricants, waxes, asphalt, and coke. These products have both domestic and industrial uses. Lubricants, for example, are applied in the operation and maintenance of industrial equipment and machinery. The fact that vibration profiles can be obtained for all machinery having rotating or moving elements allows vibration-based analysis techniques to be used for predictive maintenance. Vibration analysis is one of several predictive maintenance techniques used to monitor and analyze critical machines, equipment, and systems in a typical plant. However, as indicated before, the use of vibration analysis to monitor rotating machinery to detect budding problems and to head off catastrophic failure is the dominant predictive maintenance technique used with maintenance management programs. [Pg.664]

The only useful function of broadband analysis is longterm trending of the gross overall condition of machinery. Typically, sets of alert/alarm limits are established to monitor the overall condition of the machine-trains in a predictive maintenance program. Typically, a machine-train s vibration signature is made up of vibration components with each component associated with one or more of the true running speeds within the machine-train. Because most machinery problems show up at or near one or more of the running speeds, the narrowband capability is very beneficial in that high-resolution windows can be preset to monitor the running speeds. However, many of the microprocessor-based predictive maintenance systems available do not have narrowband capability. Therefore, care should be taken to ensure that the system utilized does have this capability. [Pg.694]
