Operating machinery

Air noise is usually less with multibladed fans (4 or more) than with 2 or 3 blades. In general, noise is not a real problem when associated with other operating machinery and when the frequency level is low and nonpenetrating. When... 

Low-frequency noise (in the range 3-50 Hz) may have other injurious effects on the body. Research has also indicated that a type of fatigue caused by low-frequency noise has a similar effect to that caused by alcohol. Infrasound (low-frequency sound) also has a synergistic effect with alcohol. Low-frequency noise is particularly important in the case of workers operating machinery (e.g. vehicles, cranes, etc.). It must also be remembered that very high power levels may be generated at low frequency and may not be readily detected by the ear. Attenuation of low-frequency noise is very difficult (see Section 42.7).

Zaditen syrup contains ketotifen, an antihistamine that may cause drowsiness. Patients are therefore advised not to drive or operate machinery. 

Codeine may cause drowsiness and patients should be advised to avoid operating machinery and driving. Patients taking antibiotics should be advised to take the medicines at regular intervals and to complete the course of treatment prescribed.

A federal law requires warning labels on alcoholic beverage containers. They state that women should not drink during pregnancy due to the risk of birth defects, and that alcoholic beverages impair your ability to drive a car or operate machinery and may cause other health problems. Lower costs and the availability of a smokable version leads to a resurgence in heroin use. 

As described in Table 5, each manufacturer shall then establish and maintain procedures for monitoring and controlling process parameters for validated processes. To ensure that each manufacturing condition is maintained adequately, it is necessary to ensure the control parameters of the operating machinery. The control parameters should include the operation speed, operation pressure, operation temperature, and electrical current of the machinery during operation. 

Amyl nitrite and other poppers can cause confusion, dizziness, drowsiness, and a slowed perception of time, even with only limited use. For these reasons driving, operating machinery, or any other work that requires being alert or responsive, is not recommended while under the influence of amyl nitrite. Amyl nitrite can also cause people to feel less inhibited, relaxed, and give them a sense of well-being and intensified emotions. This can impair judgment, especially when it comes to sexual behavior. 

Patients are cautioned not to operate machinery until they know how the drug affects them personally (although antidepressants are not known to cause impairment in this way). Side effects can include agitation, insomnia or drowsiness, and thirst. Serious side effects are not expected with these drugs. 

Barbiturates produce reactions similar to those of alcohol. A person may experience hangover symptoms including headache and dizziness. They may still feel tired and less alert as well. A person experiencing these symptoms should not drive or operate machinery. These hangover symptoms may last for hours. 

Moreover, the side effects of inhalants are a bad match for driving a vehicle, operating machinery, absorbing information in a classroom, offering stable friendship, participating positively in a family, or tackling any task with energy, focus, and efficiency. 

Patients who are receiving diazepam therapy should not operate machinery or drive motor vehicles. 

Patients who are receiving ketanserin must be cautious when driving and operating machinery, as it causes drowsiness. 

Treatment with antidepressants will affect a person s ability to drive or operate machinery. Among the tricyclic antidepressants, amitriptyline and doxepin impair skills compared with imipramine and nortriptyline. Fluoxetine and dothiepin also show similar effects, such as affecting ability to work. The United Kingdom s Medical Commission on Accident Prevention has recommended that patients on long-term psychotropic medication are unsuitable drivers of heavy vehicles or public transport services.132,133... 

MAOIs affect psychomotor performance driving and operating machinery is not advised. Abrupt termination of antidepressants, including MAOIs, causes severe adverse effects. Symptoms may be treated by gradually withdrawing these drugs.142... 

Solution of thioridazine hydrochloride is incompatible with carbamazepine suspensions. Cessation of therapy or drug reduction with troopiclone may cause dependence and withdrawal symptoms. Patients taking this drug should avoid operating machinery or industrial work and driving.168... 

The most frequent adverse effect which occurs in at least one-third of patients is drowsiness, often accompanied by incoordination or ataxia. Problems with driving, operating machinery, or falls can result, particularly in the elderly, and can be an important source of morbidity, loss of physical function, and mortality (47,48). Memory impairment, loss of insight, and transient euphoria are common paradoxical reactions of irritability or aggressive behavior have been well documented (11) and appear to occur more often in individuals with a history of impulsiveness or a personality disorder (40), and in the context of interpersonal stress and frustration (49). Tolerance to the sedative and hypnotic effects generally occurs more rapidly than to the anxiolytic or amnestic effects (1).
