Paint black

Before testing, the blades have to be painted black to ensure a symmetrical thermal radiation. Painting is done in an additional cabin. After the measurement the blades or vanes are cleaned in an ultrasonic bath. 

Weld scanning within the test section (scanned areas are "painted black")... 

The scan area" field which is white at the start of scanning is painted black during the test so that the inspector will immediately see which areas still remain to be tested. The zone has not been 100% scanned until the entire field is black. If the probe movement is too fast, or if there is no coupling, or if the probe is rotated at too large an angle, there is no change in the color this means that the corresponding zone has not been properly scanned. 

Ratings may be improved by approximately 20% if the busbars are painted black with a non-metallic matt finish paint. This is because heat dissipation through a surface depends upon temperature, type of surface and colour. A rough surface will dissipate heat more readily than a smooth surface and a black body more quickly than a normal surface. Also refer to Section 51.4.4 and Table 51.1.

There has never been a time when a darkroom needed to be painted black. This is an idea held over from the—dare I say it —Dark Ages. 

The apparatus used for the in vitro dissolution studies consisted of a two-piece 1 L reaction kettle (Fisher Scientific Co. Cat. No. 11-847B). The top cover has four openings, three of which were stoppered and the center one left open for the stirrer shaft. The exterior of both the top and bottom pieces were painted black to allow use with light-sensitive drugs. Stirring was provided by a three-blade, polyethylene stirrer... 

In a plant location near a furnace, a net radiant energy flux of 800 W/m2 is incident on a vertical metal surface 3.5 m high and 2 m wide. The metal is insulated on the back side and painted black so that all the incoming radiation is lost by free convection to the surrounding air at 30°C. What average temperature will be attained by the plate ... 

The candle, smoke substitute, was painted black. Paint was applied by dipping the candle in osphaltum paint for the purjioHC of protecting... 

Both the grow bed and the resen/oir should be covered to keep out light which will precipitate bacterial growth, A simple, lightweight sheet of Styrofoam (painted black if you wish) will cover the resen/oir, and a similar sheet with holes for the plant containers can be used to cover the grow bed. 

Phosgene is most readily obtained as a liquified gas stored under pressure, in steel cylinders of various sizes. The pressure, under normal conditions, may vary between about 1-2 bar depending upon the ambient temperature (see Chapter 6) and the type and concentration of impurities (see Chapter 4). In the United Kingdom, the smaller 3 lb (1 kg) and 9 lb (4 kg) cylinders are painted black with blue and yellow bands at the shoulder (see Fig. 3.1).
