The elements of a PM plan include periodic inspection, cleaning, and service as warranted, adjustment and calibration of control system components, maintenance equipment and replacement parts that are of good quality and properly selected for the intended function. Critical HVAC system components that require PM in order to maintain comfort and deliver adequate ventilation air include a outdoor air intake opening, damper controls, air filters, drip pans, cooling and heating coils, fan belts, humidification equipment and controls, distribution systems, exhaust fans. [Pg.211]

Maintenance Equipment and its components require routine maintenance for continued reliability and safe operation. A plant layout designer must provide unobstruaed space for service equipment and personnel to access and remove components without removing unrelated equipment and piping. [Pg.12]

Keep aisles and walkways free and clear of maintenance equipment and tools in order to eliminate tripping hazards and to ensure that emergency evacuation is not restricted and that access to firefighting equipment is not hampered. [Pg.13]

Obstructions to maintenance of the structure or equipment should be sub-divided, where necessary, and their width should be kept to a minimum. The optimum distance of an obstacle from the background structure or equipment depends on the available and required maintenance equipment and technique. [Pg.375]

A suitable maintenance strategy should be developed for equipment by considering the criticality and failure mode, and then applying a mixture of the forms of maintenance described above. In particular, the long-term cost of maintenance of an item of equipment should be estimated over the whole life of the project and combined with its capital cost to select both the type of equipment and form of maintenance which gives the best full lifecycle cost on a discounted basis), while of course meeting the technical, safety and environmental specifications. [Pg.290]

Once production commences (possibly 3-8 years after the first capex) gross revenues are received from the sale of the hydrocarbons. These revenues are used to recover the capital expenditure (capex) of the project, to pay for the operating expenditure (opex) of the project (e.g. manpower, maintenance, equipment running costs, support costs), and to provide the host government take which may in the simplest case be in the form of taxes and royalty. [Pg.305]

In a mature facility the design team for a new building or an addition to an old building should seek input from the maintenance department. Maintenance workers know what equipment and material is difficult to maintain, and the standard in the existing facility employed in order to prevent stocking of many different replacement parts. [Pg.441]

Manufacturing Engineering. Industrial engineering, equipment engineering, production-machine maintenance, iastmmentation engineering and maintenance, tooling and operation of machine shop, chemical and environmental engineering, and the technical Hbrary are within this area. [Pg.445]

These procedures ensure early design maturity. Performing an EMA on purchased equipment may eliminate maintenance problems and provide a plan for spare-parts iaventories. [Pg.6]

Water chemistry is important to the safe and reflable operation of a nuclear power plant. Improper conditions can lead to equipment and material failures which ia turn can lead to lengthy unscheduled shutdown periods for maintenance (qv) and repair operations. Water chemistry can also have an impact on the radiation levels duriag both power operations and shutdown periods. These affect the abiUty of personnel to perform plant functions. [Pg.196]

The location of exchangers is the key to maintenance. Usually the back head is kept at a distance of about three meters from the piperack support columns. Access equipment must be able to get in and remove the sheU cover and flange head. Access area must also be provided to handle and remove the sheU cover usually located under the piperack. The tube-pulling or rodding-out area must be kept clear to allow access to the channel end. This space should be at least equal to the tube length and about two meters from the tube sheet location. Tube removal space should be allowed for but is not mandatory if grade-mounted heat exchangers are used and mobile maintenance equipment employed to pick up the entire unit and transfer it to the repair shop. [Pg.78]

Figure 12 shows the plan and elevation views of a process unit piping (9). A dmm is supported off the piperack. Heat exchangers are located far enough back from the support columns so that they are accessible and their shell covers can be removed. Pumps are located underneath the piperack, but sufficient room is provided for maintenance equipment to access the motors and to remove the pump if necessary. The motor is always oriented away from the process equipment and located on that side of the piperack. Instmment valve drops are shown supported from the columns. The instmment trays themselves mn on the outside of the support columns. Flat turns are only made from the outside position of the piperack. Nozzle-to-nozzle pipe mns are made whenever possible. Larger lines are located on the outside of the piperack. Connections to nozzles above the rack are made from the top... [Pg.80]
