Magnesium acetylsalicylate

Medicine pain killer and fever reducer (magnesium acetylsalicylate) antacid to neutralize stomach acid (magnesium hydroxide magnesium phosphate magnesium silicate) laxative to loosen the bowels... [Pg.330]

The salicylates include aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) and related drugp, such as magnesium salicylate and sodium salicylate. The salicylates have analgesic (relieves pain), antipyretic (reduces elevated body temperature), and anti-inflammatory effects. All the salicylates are similar in pharmacologic activity however, aspirin has a greater anti-inflammatory effect than the other salicylates. Specific salicylates are listed in the Summary Drug Table Nonnarcotic Analgesics Salicylates and Nonsalicylates. [Pg.151]

C. Pyrazinamide is known to cause hyperuricemia and precipitate gouty arthritis. Pyrazinamide-induced gouty arthritis does not respond to uricosuric therapy with probenecid but may respond to acetylsalicylic acid. Cycloserine (A) can cause headaches, confusion, tremors, and seizures, possibly secondary to low levels of magnesium in the cerebrospinal fluid cycloserine should be avoided in patients with epilepsy and mental depression. It is not associated with hyperuricemia. Thiacetazone (B) is an antibiotic that is rarely used in tuberculosis. The most common adverse reactions are general rashes and GI intolerance. Its use is not associated with hy-... [Pg.565]

Protein or calcium deficiency impairs drug metabolism in animals, due to decreased activity of the microsomal enzymes of the liver. The sleeping time by hexobarbitone is increased as a result of prolonged protein malnutrition. Acetylsalicylic acid has been shown to be more toxic to animals on a diet deficient in protein and magnesium. [Pg.33]

Acetylsalicylic acid is usually given by oral administration (0.5-8 g/day) for pain and inflammation and for antiplatelet therapy (75-100 mg/day). It is also available in rectal and topical formulations and as a soluble lysine derivative for intravenous or intramuscular application. Acetylsalicylic acid is often used in multi-drug preparations. The main side-effects are gastrointestinal disorders. Use in children is limited due to the risk of Reye s syndrome (Waldmann et al., 1982). The lithium, magnesium, calcium, and aluminium salts of acetylsalicylic acid are used in some special preparations. [Pg.45]

Results The carbonic acid, the hypochlorous acid, the boric acid, and the acetylsalicylic acid turned the blue litmus paper to red, but had no effect on the red litmus paper. The sodium hydroxide and the ammonium hydroxide turned the red litmus paper to blue, but had no effect on the blue litmus paper. The sodium chloride, magnesium sulfate, ethanol, salad oil, and sodium bicarbonate had no effect on either the red or blue litmus paper. [Pg.71]

Acids and bases are as familiar as aspirin and milk of magnesia although many people do not know their chemical names—acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin) and magnesium hydroxide (milk of magnesia). In addition to being the basis of many medicinal and household products, acid-base chemistry is important in industrial processes and essential in sustaining biological systems. Before we can discuss acid-base reactions, we need to know more about acids and bases themselves. [Pg.115]
