In a placebo-controlled study of severely anemic patients with low-grade non-Hodgkin s lymphoma, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, or multiple myeloma, a fatal case of pulmonary embolism was thought to have been related to treatment with epoetin beta (95). Thrombotic events, such as vascular access thrombosis, venous thrombosis, and pulmonary embolism, have occurred after treatment with epoetin or darbepoetin alfa (96). It is therefore recommended that a rapid rise in the hemoglobin concentration be avoided and that care should be taken that the hemoglobin concentration does not exceed 12.1 g/dl (7.5 mmol/1) (97). [Pg.1247]

CD25 functions as a low-affinity interleukin-2 receptor and may be found on a number of cell types including activated T cells. This antigen is characteristically expressed on hairy cell leukemia, mast cell lesions, and certain T-cell malignancies but may be seen at low levels in certain B-cell lymphomas, particularly small cell lymphocytic lymphoma/chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Targeted therapy is available for this antigen (Ontak). [Pg.158]

Cladribine, a purine nucleoside analog, with antineoplas-tic properties (0.09 mg/kg daily by continuous IV infusion for 7 days), is indicated in the treatment of active hairy cell leukemia. In addition, it has been used in advanced cutaneous T-cell lymphomas, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, non-Hodgkin s lymphomas, acute myeloid leukemias, autoimmune hemolytic anemia, mycosis fungoides, or Sezary syndrome (see also Figure 15). [Pg.160]

This translocation has been also sporadically described in few other malignancies such as some high-grade B-cell lymphoma (some of which maybe transformed from mantle cell lymphoma), chronic lymphocytic leukemia, hairy cell leukemia and multiple myeloma. [Pg.164]

Corticosteroids suppress proliferation of lymphocytic cells, thus they are useful at combating acute lymphoblastic or undifferentiated leukemia of childhood, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, Hodgkin s lymphoma, other lymphomas. Therapy is often initiated with a steroid in combination with other agents. There is no evidence of cross resistance to unrelated agents. Mostly prednison is used however at appropriate dosages similar effects can be obtained with other glucocorticosteroids. [Pg.458]

Alemtuzumab is a recombinant DNA-derived humanized monoclonal antibody used in the treatment of chronic lymphocytic leukemia and T-cell lymphoma. It targets CD52, a protein present on the surface of mature lymphocytes. Alemtuzumab has been associated with infusion-related events including hypotension, rigors, fever, shortness of breath, bron-chospasm, chills, and/or rash. Also reported were syncope, pulmonary infiltrates, cardiac arrhythmias, myocardial infarction and cardiac arrest. [Pg.461]
