Reticulum-cell sarcoma

As described in several monographs [4], bryostatin 1 exhibits significant in vitro and in vivo antineoplastic activity against a range of tumor cell lines including murine leukemia, B-cell lymphoma, reticulum cell sarcoma, ovarian carcinoma, and melanoma. It is also effective in the modulation of apoptotic function [5], the reversal of multidrug resistance [6], and stimulation of the immune system [7]. These unique features displayed by bryostatin 1 are attributed to its high affinity for protein kinase C (PKC) isozymes and its ability to selectively modulate their functions [8]. PKCs are a type of intracellular serine and threonine kinase that... [Pg.104]

It is indicated in leukaemias, lymphogranulomatosis, lymphosarcoma, reticulum cell sarcoma, Hodgkin s disease, multiple myeloma, retinoblastoma, carcinoma of the breast, adenocarcinoma of the ovary, inoperable solid malignancies. It is used in combination with surgery, radiation and other therapeutic measures. [Pg.373]

Melphalan is an antineoplastic drug, listed also as a Class I immunosuppressive agent (effective only when given prior to the immune stimulus) [1]. It is used for the treatment of multiple myeloma, ovarian carcinoma, tumors of the testes, chronic granulocytic leukemia, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, seminoma, Ewing s sarcoma, reticulum cell sarcoma, and thymoma [1,2]. Its use as an adjuvant to surgery in the management of primary breast cancer was one of the first illustrations of the therapeutic potential of combined modalities of treatment [3]. [Pg.266]

Chlorambucil is carcinogenic in experimental animals. When administered intraperitoneally to rats, lymphosarcomas, myelogenous leukemia, and reticulum cell sarcomas were noted. Mice receiving the material intraperitoneally developed lymphosarcomas, lung adenomas, and adenocarcinomas. Female mice developed ovarian neoplasms. [Pg.537]

Some investigations have been made of the glyctwaminoglycans in sera in clinical conditions, and the presence of hyaluronic acid in sera from several pathological conditions has been reported (D19, D20). The levels of glycosaminoglycan are increased in serum in exophthalmos (W14), and they also increase with the progress of serum bilharziasis (K24). Hyaluronic acid is manifest in sera from cases of reticulum cell sarcoma and neuroblastoma (D19). Determination of [ Sjsulfate incorporation into the leukocyte cellular fraction may help to differentiate between acute granulocytic and acute lymphocytic leukemia (L7) in the latter no incorporation into chondroitin sulfate occurs in vUro whereas in the former appreciable incorporation occurs in vitro. [Pg.54]
