Liquid foam shampoos

Aerosol Shampoos. These shampoos constitute a very small percentage of the market. They have been available in two versions, ie, liquid foam types and dry spray forms. The liquid foam type, despite its convenience and appealing appearance, did not attain high general use. Factors involved in its low acceptability include not only higher product cost but also serious stability issues with can corrosion. 

The first application which comes into mind when thinking about liquid foams is in cleaning processes, such a shampoo or shaving foams. More important, however, are liquid foams in mineral froth flotation and, a closely related process, the de-inking of recycled paper. Other uses include fire fighting. In food we often find foams such as whipped cream or egg whites. 

These alkyl dimethyl amine oxides are used as foam stabilizers primarily in light-duty liquids and shampoos where the major active ingredient is either an alcohol ether sulfate or an alcohol sulfate. The alkyl group is usually C19 to C.. which gives the best overall foam stability (3). 12 14... 

Foam regulators such as amine oxides, alkanolamides, and betaines are present in products where high foam value is functionally or esthetically desirable, mainly hand-dishwashing liquids and shampoos. In automatic-dishwashing products, on the other hand, copious foam volumes interfere with the efficiency of the mechanical rotors during operation. In this type of product, a foam depressant is often present. 

Liquid preparations for cutaneous application are described as preparations with variable viscosity intended for local or transdermal application. This category comprises solutions, emulsions and suspensions for dermal use containing rnie or more active substances in a suitable base. As examples for liquid preparations shampoos and cutaneous foams are defined in Ph. Eur. 

Foam stabilizers, superfatting and thickening agents for liquid detergent, shampoo and bubble bath preparations. 

Mild foam booster and grease cutter for liquid soap, dishwashing liquid, and shampoos. 

The effect of alkanolamides (hand dishwashing liquids and shampoos) is difhcult to explain because they are, in fact, mixtures of free fatty acids, alkanolamine soaps, and fatty acid esters of the alkanolamine and of the alkanolamide. Nevertheless, it is reported that dialkanolamides are effective because of their ability to complex with the anionic, leading to stronger micellar interaction and, consequently, higher foam film viscosity as well as lowering the anionic s CMC [76]. The most often used are lauric/myristic mono-ethanolamides and coco diethanolamide.

The chemical differences between low active and super amides dictate the fields of application. The low active products are liquids used where high purity is not required and where the amine soap helps disperse other ingredients. Super amides are produced in twice the quantity and used in solid products, shampoos and light duty detergents as foam stabilisers. They are generally waxy solids. 

Uses Foam booster and stabilizer in shampoos, bubble baths, and liquid detergents. 

By far, the greatest apphcation of fatty alcohol is in the manufacture of fatty alcohol sulfate and fatty alcohol ether sulfate. These materials possess good foaming properties and ready biodegradability and are extensively used as base surfactants for laundry detergent products, shampoos, dishwashing liquids, and cleaners.
