Lined hoses

PTFE is by far the material of choice, however, ETFE is also sometimes used. Carbon-filled PTFE is often used where static discharge is desired. Although hoses are available in sizes up to 8 (20 cm), the most common size is 1 (2.5 cm) with 2 (5 cm) occasionally encountered. Smooth bore hoses are used where residual liquid is a safety or environmental concern. However, smooth bore lacks the flexibility that a convoluted bore provides. Although metal overbraiding is commonly used, elastomeric ones are also encountered. [Pg.301]

Another name for liner. Also used with the normal meaning as in chemical plant lining, hose lining, etc. [Pg.37]

A variety of natural and synthetic materials are used throughout fuel and lubricant systems. Examples include transfer lines, hoses, fan blades, impellers, small gears, housings, and a host of supporting framework. Some plastics can be degraded by fuels, lubricants, additives, and various petroleum-based compounds. The most resistant material is polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). Ryton and Viton are less resistant, but are still quite stable in fuel and lubricant systems. Characteristics of PTFE and Ryton are shown below ... [Pg.229]

PP/EPDM TPV for automotive applications include rack and pinion bellows, air ducts, underhood tubing and connector, underhood hose, plugs, bumpers, grommets, prop rod shaft cover, radiator air deflector, air bag door covers and skins, grips, seals, mats and cupholders, windshield wiper motor cover, fuel line hose, suspension bellows, and weatherseals. EPDM/PP TPV was also used for construction such as door sweep, expansion joints, and window and door seals. Electronic applications include scroll wheel, printer roller, scanner lid, grip, access panel door, speaker surrounds, and holders and bumpers. Also, TPVs are widely used in business machines, power tools, motor mounts, and many other fields. [Pg.437]

Supplied-air respirators (airline respirators) supply air to a facepiece via a supply line (hose) from a stationary source. SARs are available in positive-pressure and negative-pressure modes. Pressure-demand SARs with escape provisions provide the highest level of protection and are the only SARs recommended for use at hazardous waste sites. SARs are not recommended for entry into IDLH atmospheres unless the apparatus is equipped with an escape SCBA. The air source for supplied-air respirators may be compressed air cylinders or a compressor that purifies and delivers ambient air to the facepiece. All SAR couplings must be incompatible with the outlets of other gas systems used on site to prevent a worker from connecting to the wrong gas source (nitrogen, hydrogen, etc.). [Pg.199]

Chlorobutyl provides flex resistance in the blend chlorobutyl rub-ber/EPDM rubber/NR for white sidewall tires and white sidewall cov-erstrips.22 An important application of chlorobutyl rubber in automotive hose is extruded air conditioning hose to provide barrier properties to reduce moisture gain and minimize refrigerant loss. The polymer is used in compounds for fuel line and brake line hoses. Brominated isobutylene-p-methylstyrene (BIMS) was shown to have... [Pg.227]
