The total life span of erythrocytes in blood is 120 days. 

Mucosa. The innermost layer of the wall is the mucosa, which consists of a mucous membrane, the lamina propria, and the muscularis mucosa. The mucous membrane provides important protective and absorptive functions for the digestive tract. The nature of the epithelial cells lining the tract varies from one region to the next. Rapidly dividing stem cells continually produce new cells to replace worn out epithelial cells. The average life span of these epithelial cells is only a few days. The lamina propria is a thin middle layer of connective tissue. This region contains the capillaries and small lymphatic vessels that take up the digested nutrient molecules. The muscularis mucosa is a thin layer of smooth muscle. Contraction of this muscle may alter the effective surface area for absorption in the lumen. 

Sodium valproate has been determined in pharmaceuticals using a valproate selective electrode [13,14]. The electroactive material was a valproate-methyl-tris (tetra-decyl)ammonium ion-pair complex in decanol. Silver-silver chloride electrode was used as the reference electrode. The electrode life span was >1 month. Determination of 90-1500 pg/mL in aqueous solution by direct potentiometry gave an average recovery of 100.0% and a response time of 1 min.

Cyclophosphamide or fullerene individually injected did not increase the average life span of the animals, while the combination of the anticancer drug and nitroxide fullerene derivative resulted in the survival of 70% animals, classifying these compounds as promising modifiers of biological reaction for tumor therapy.
