Licensing activity

Sources of finance for licensing activities are the same as those for overall dmg regulation (see Chapter 5.3). [Pg.58]

This section focuses on licensing activities, unlicensed illegal facilities, problems related to legal stmctures and implementation problems. [Pg.60]

The naming of this process has been confused because of various corporate relationships. The basic invention was created in 1957 at the Consortium fur Elektrochemische Industrie, Munich, a wholly owned subsidiary of Wacker-Chemie. It has therefore been called both the Wacker process and the Consortium process. But for many years, Wacker-Chemie has had a close relationship with Farbwerke Hoechst and the latter company has participated in some of the development and licensing activities, so two other names have come to be used Wacker-Hoechst and Hoechst-Wacker. The live inventors (J. Schmidt, W. Hafner, J. Sedlmeier, R. Jira, and R. Riittinger) received the Dechema prize in 1962 for this invention. The acetaldehyde process was first operated commercially in 1960. In 1997, this process was used in making 85 percent of the world s production of acetaldehyde. Although Wacker-Chemie still makes vinyl acetate, it no longer uses the Wacker process to do so. [Pg.286]

The approaches to discovering a new molecule discussed in this chapter will focus primarily on a molecule that is prepared by company scientists. Obviously, new drug candidates, either in early stages of development or nearing the market, can be available as the result of licensing activities, which will also be discussed in this chapter. [Pg.329]

The survey also found, however, that universities and research institutions need to be patient and should not expect millionaire returns in short time-frames, since the generation of revenues from licensing is not immediate. Fewer than 1% of the 20 968 licenses active in 2000 generated a million dollars or more. Of the institutions responding to the survey, only 10% reported profit greater than 20 million dollars from licensing, and 80% of these licenses had already been in force for at least 10 years. [Pg.384]

The annual radiation exposure of nuclear workers is limited to 5 rem, and the limit for public exposure (not radiation workers) from licensed activities is 100 mrem/year although people living near a nuclear power station are on average only exposed to <1 mrem/year.8 The government also puts limits on fatality risk levels due to a nuclear accident ... [Pg.943]

The act produced rapid expansion of U.S. universities patenting and licensing activities. The number of licensing offices maintained by U.S. universities has grown from roughly 25 in 1979 to well over 200 today. The number of patents assigned to U.S. universities has more than quadrupled during that period of time. [Pg.13]

Professional engineers working in the process industries in California face a challenge most licensed activities have to be carried out by civil engineers, regardless of the work that is being performed chemical engineers have comparatively little status (Parkinson, 2013). [Pg.737]

ALARA Acronym for As Low As Reasonably Achievable, means making every reasonable effort to maintain exposures to ionizing radiation as far below the dose limits as practical, consistent with the purpose for which the licensed activity is undertaken, taking into account the state of technology, the economics of improvements in relation to benefits to the public health and safety, and other societal and socioeconomic considerations, and in... [Pg.282]

Implicit in the above instructions is that the employees must comply with the regulations and with procedures adopted to protect not only themselves but others, including the public outside the areas in which the licensed activities take place. However, it is not sufficient for an employer simply to place such responsibility on the employee. The employermust see that the employees comply with all applicable standards. There have been several instances in which heavy fines have been imposed on corporations and academic institutions that have failed to enforce compliance. [Pg.579]
