A management team may be needed to prioritize multiple actions and their close-out. Learning from incident case studies also requires a willingness to change and adopt new and improved practices. This final chapter aims to summarise a number of the themes which regularly crop up within the book. A second aim of this chapter is to offer some speculations regarding the likely directions the field of Patient Safety Culture (PSC) will take in the coming years, as well as potential areas for future exploration. A key argument is that the field of PSC needs to move beyond ciurent concerns and expand its theoretical and methodological horizons. Part of this will involve improving the way in which we develop and test PSC surveys, tools and instruments. A second element is the need to take a closer look at some of the key lessons from other industries and work towards an improved application of a wider systems approach to future PSC research and practice (Wilson 2014). 

The Summit attendees drew many lessons from other industries, including civil aviation and nuclear power.

Having learnt the lessons from this simple little compound, it would seem reasonable to expect similarly surprising couplings in other fluorinated heterocycles. 

One of the conclusions that one may draw from the talk which Dr. Margerum has given us here is the lesson from chelate systems, showing the very important role played by other parts of the molecule in determining what the reaction coordinate really looks like. This is something that has interested us a good deal since we tried some years ago to compare the differences in the substitution rates for the halopentaammine chromium complexes and the halopentaaquo chromium complexes. 

A variety of policy "remedies" are available for such equity concerns, but they all tax some people and transfer the proceeds to others. The policies range from simple tax-and-transfer schemes to vouchers to "free" government information to mandates that firms provide information. The programs vary in their effects on market efficiency. A general lesson from economics is that if redistribution occurs, it should augment purchasing power rather than directly alter the behavior of market participants. 

Given the difficulties which have faced multidisciplinary community teams, it seems almost a miracle that any have survived. The central issue is how these teams can be integrated into the existing service structure in such a way as to not only enhance the over-all pattern of service provision, but also to facilitate and support the work done by the team. If this is going to happen we need to be much clearer about what the needs of our client group are, and how we propose to meet them. The fact that so many teams have survived is a tribute to the adaptability and commitment of their individual members. In order to sustain their commitment the teams themselves need to receive the support and commitment of others. If we cannot learn this lesson from existing teams the future of community services looks bleak. 

There are two important lessons from these and other experiments on peptide fragments. 

Comments. The clearest lesson from the DXM experience is that when designing an abuse-liability study, it is important to consider all possible effects that can make a drug abusable, bearing in mind that effects to which a particular study sample is insensitive or averse may be desired effects in others.

Receive input, as appropriate, through documents and briefings from other organizations in the private and public sectors, about approaches and lessons learned from chemical monitoring of similarly complex facilities. 

Finally, we need to seek other lessons from our successes and failures in implementing the innovation process as it fuels growth for DuPont.
