Lead plate test detonators

Thallium. Ignition point 208° (Ref 12) has greatest expl effect in lead plate test when primed with MF (Ref 7). It is a useful detonator at d 1.1—1.2g/cc, but usefullness decreases at higher d (Ref 7)... [Pg.72]

Tests conducted at temps of -80° and -183° with expls commonly used in detonators showed that the vel of deton and Trauzl lead block expansion values were practically unaffected, while brisance, as indicated by the lead plate test, was greatly reduced. The performance of detonators, as judged by an initiation test on unconfined cartridges contg LOX (qv) expls, was also greatly reduced. Only detonators contg Mannitol Hexanitrate, when immersed in LOX expls for 3 minutes at —183°, resulted in complete deton (Ref 1)... [Pg.617]

Pressure Effect on Performance in Detonators. Results of the "Lead Plate Test, descrihed in ChemMetEngrg 26,1126—32(1922), indicated that excellent penetrations of the plate are obtained when pentryl is compressed at ca 2320 psi (163.1 kg/cma) and that increasing the pressure to 5830 psi(409.8 kg/cma) has no significant effect. When tested by the "Sand Bomb Test, pentryl showed nearly the same performance at pressures from 1160 to 5830 psi(81.5 to 409.8 kg/cma). In these series of tests the amt of sand crushed was 56.4 0.6p (Ref 4,p 1386)... [Pg.428]

In the lead plate test of detonators, the detonator is fired while standing upright on a plate of pure lead. Plates 2 to 6 mm. thick are used, most commonly 3 mm. A good detonator makes a clean-cut hole through the lead. The metal of the detonator case is blown into small fragments which make fine and characteristic markings on the lead plate radiating away from the place where... [Pg.26]

Its salts are explosive. Urbanski (Ref 4) prepd many salts and determined their decreasing order of expl effect, when primed with MF in the Lead Plate Test, as follows Tl, Sn, Na, K, Fe, Cu, Cd Ba. Lead Plate Test for Determination of the Initiating Strength of Detonators... [Pg.59]

The lead plate test is conducted in order to determine the initiating strength of the detonators on the basis of its ability to punch a clean hole through a lead plate of defined thickness and quality. The method may be applied to various... [Pg.59]

The lead plate test setup is presented in Figure 2.39. The plates used in the experiment are made of unalloyed lead, 30-40 mm in diameter and 1.5-5 mm thick, as required for a given detonator type. For example, the No. 8 standard detonator should cut a clean hole through a 5 mm thick lead plate. [Pg.59]

Thus by measuring the distance of the mark on the lead plate from the mid point of the fuse the velocity of detonation of the explosive under test may be calculated. In practice, it is simple to construct a rule by which the velocity can be measured directly from the lead plate. [Pg.67]
