Tests conducted at temps of -80° and -183° with expls commonly used in detonators showed that the vel of deton and Trauzl lead block expansion values were practically unaffected, while brisance, as indicated by the lead plate test, was greatly reduced. The performance of detonators, as judged by an initiation test on unconfined cartridges contg LOX (qv) expls, was also greatly reduced. Only detonators contg Mannitol Hexanitrate, when immersed in LOX expls for 3 minutes at —183°, resulted in complete deton (Ref 1)... [Pg.617]

Its salts are explosive. Urbanski (Ref 4) prepd many salts and determined their decreasing order of expl effect, when primed with MF in the Lead Plate Test, as follows Tl, Sn, Na, K, Fe, Cu, Cd Ba. VonHerz (Ref 2) patented the use of some of these metallic salts in mixes with... [Pg.187]

Brisance by the Lead Plate Test was detd by Rohrlich and Sauermilch (Ref 11) with caps contg as top charge 0.05, 0.1, 0.2 or 0.3 g trimeric peroxide(compressed to 250 kg/cma), an intermediate charge of 0.3 g PETN(compressed to 250 kg/cma) and a base charge of 0.5 g PETN(compressed to 500 kg/cmJ). The holes punched by these caps were comparable to those produced by No 8 caps... [Pg.43]

Pressure Effect on Performance in Detonators. Results of the "Lead Plate Test, descrihed in ChemMetEngrg 26,1126—32(1922), indicated that excellent penetrations of the plate are obtained when pentryl is compressed at ca 2320 psi (163.1 kg/cma) and that increasing the pressure to 5830 psi(409.8 kg/cma) has no significant effect. When tested by the "Sand Bomb Test, pentryl showed nearly the same performance at pressures from 1160 to 5830 psi(81.5 to 409.8 kg/cma). In these series of tests the amt of sand crushed was 56.4 0.6p (Ref 4,p 1386)... [Pg.428]

Lead B odi(or Cylinder) Compress on (or Crushing) Tost(Lesd Block Teat or Hess Test) (Stsuchprobe nach Hess, in Ger) (Iipreuve au block de plomh, in Fr) is one of the German teats for brisance, also called percussive force. It will be described in Vol II, under Compression Teats Lead Block Expansion Test. See Trauzl Test Lead Plate Test. See under Plate Tests... [Pg.715]

In the lead plate test of detonators, the detonator is fired while standing upright on a plate of pure lead. Plates 2 to 6 mm. thick are used, most commonly 3 mm. A good detonator makes a clean-cut hole through the lead. The metal of the detonator case is blown into small fragments which make fine and characteristic markings on the lead plate radiating away from the place where... [Pg.26]
