In the 1990s the technique of solid-phase organic synthesis (SPOS) became generally popular, but especially in the medicinal chemistry community, for lead detection and lead optimization via combinatorial techniques. The combination with microwave irradiation brought an elegant solution for the problem of the notoriously slower reactions compared to those in solution phase. [Pg.12]

In contrast, the coupling of electrochemical and spectroscopic techniques, e.g., electrodeposition of a metal followed by detection by atomic absorption spectrometry, has received limited attention. Wire filaments, graphite rods, pyrolytic graphite tubes, and hanging drop mercury electrodes have been tested [383-394] for electrochemical preconcentration of the analyte to be determined by atomic absorption spectroscopy. However, these ex situ preconcentration methods are often characterised by unavoidable irreproducibility, contaminations arising from handling of the support, and detection limits unsuitable for lead detection at sub-ppb levels. [Pg.186]

For an inactive gas, helium has a surprising number of applications. It is used in low-temperamre research, for filling balloons and dirigibles (blimps), to pressurize rocket fuels, in welding operations, in lead detection systems, in neon signs, and to protect objects from reacting with oxygen. [Pg.240]

Different miniaturized flow injection analyzers have been constructed using spectrophotometry as a leading detection technique. Besides, electrochemical techniques such as amperometry and potentiometry with chemically modified solidstate electrodes and tubular membrane-based ISEs, respectively, have been proved to be well adapted to multiparametric measurements of inorganic species present in wastewater, using multiple sensor arrays. [Pg.1325]

In addition to analyzing the EDTA-Pb solution with the ICP-MS, as a control we also analyzed several solutions of the EDTA solution after sitting for fourteen days in containers without pot sherds. The nem absence of lead in our control sanqtles gave us confidence that the lead detected by the ICP-MS came fiom the majolica glaze rather than from the plasticware in which tiie sherds were soaked. [Pg.40]

Lead detection kits are useful as a quick check for screening areas for lead abatement. A positive response is evidence of the presence of lead or a positive interference. A negative response, however, is not conclusive evidence of the absence of lead. The test provides presumptive evidence for the presence of lead, not its absence. A more thorough determination may need to be performed by a quantitative laboratory analysis of any representative bulk material available to substantiate the absence of lead. Samples are analyzed for lead at OSHA s Salt Lake Technical Center (SLTC) using OSHA methods ID-121 with Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS), ID-125 G with Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP), or ID-206 (Solders by ICP). If necessary, lower limits of detection for lead may be achieved using ICP Mass Spectrometer procedures. [Pg.12]
