Threshold determinations for metal-containing compounds present a special case. If, for example, you process several different lead compounds, you would base your threshold determination on the total weight of all lead compounds processed. Lead Azide. The azides belong to a class of very few useflil explosive compounds that do not contain oxygen. Lead azide is the primary explosive used in military detonators in the United States, and has been intensively studied (see also Lead compounds). However, lead azide is being phased out as an ignition compound in commercial detonators by substances such as diazodinitrophenol (DDNP) or PETN-based mixtures because of health concerns over the lead content in the fumes and the explosion risks and environmental impact of the manufacturing process. [Pg.10]

Lead compounds were not found on the surrounding activated coating layer, rather only associated with the precious metal. The Pt sites are less poisoned by lead than are Pd or Rh sites because the Pt sites are protected by the sulfur in the fuel. Fuel sulfur is converted to SO2 in the combustion process, and Pt easily oxidizes SO2 to SO on the catalyst site. The SO reacts with the lead compounds to form PbSO, which then moves off the catalyst site so that lead sulfate is not a severe catalyst poison. Neither Pd nor Rh is as active for the SO2 to SO reaction, and therefore do not enjoy the same protection as Pt. [Pg.489]

Calculating the Maximum Quantity of Lead and Lead Compounds. To calculate the maximum amount of lead and lead compounds present at your facility at any one time, you must consider types of metallic load and M types of lead compounds present at your facility, Including stockpiled raw materials, lead and lead oxide present in process equipment, the metallic lead and lead peroxide contained in finished batteries stored on-site, and stockpiled lead scrap. Since the reporting form is being prepared for lead compounds, the maximum amount reported is the total of the inventories of these materials. The maximum amount of metallic lead (2,305,000 pounds), lead oxide (205,000 pounds), and lead peroxide (625,000 pounds) present at your facility is 3,135,000 pounds, which is between 1,000,000 and 9,999,999 pounds. You would therefore report range 06 on Part III, Section 4, of the reporting form. [Pg.83]

Experimental screening established that compound 42 shown in Fig. 8.11 disrupts ZipA-FtsZ protein-protein interaction. However, previous studies suggested potential issues with toxicity associated with this class of compounds. Additionally such amine-substituted pyridyl-pyrimidines are heavily patented in the context of kinase inhibition. Both of these factors limit the scope of the subsequent lead optimization process, to transform this compound into a viable drug. Knowledge that compound 42 was a micromolar inhibitor of ZipA-FtsZ was exploited by searching for molecules that were similar in shape. [Pg.201]
