The mamifac turing cost of a product is the sum of the processing or conversion cost and the cost of raw materials. The processing cost can be roughly broken down into three parts investment-related cost, labor-related cost, and utility cost. 

The percentage is best obtained from company records. Although it can vary over a wide range, a reasonable value is 125 percent. In this case, the labor-related cost would be 2.25 times the direc t labor cost. For a 6000-h year and N persons per shift earning per hour, the annual labor-related cost woiild be 13,500 (ciN).

Although labor rates are more and more becoming similar in most parts of the country, factors such as skill, labor relations, and the general welfare of the work force affect labor productivity and efficiency. Negative employee moral may manifest itself in an aspect of direct damage to company equipment as retribution. These effects may be disguised as accidental events in order to avoid persecution by the individuals involved. Other incidents may be perpetrated by outright terrorist activities. The term, unfair labor practice, is used in the Taft-Hartley Act. Violation of any of the specific practices stated in the Act are subject to remedial action ordered by the National Labor Relations Board. The Board has the authority to go to court to ensure that its decisions are carried out. If an employee who is fired or otherwise discriminated against so charges, the burden of proof is on the employer to show that such action is completely unrelated to union activity.

There are additional miscellaneous factors which impinge on the worker reentry process, the most important being crop, pest management practices, work practices, and labor relations. 

It consists in obliging businesses to contribute to sustainable development, labor relations with workers, their families, the local community, and society as a whole, in order to improve the quality of life.

Tables 10.1, 10.2, and 10.3 illustrate a set of factors used by one chemical firm for fiuids-handling and solids-handling plants. The factors and ratios used to break down the total cost into the various direct and indirect accounts are based on a 100% subcontract construction where most of the labor-related field indirects are collected with the subcontract labor costs and the "field indirects" account refers to only the construction management and the site general conditions costs. Field indirects are discussed in more detail in Section 19.9.

If construction is to be executed on a direct-hire basis, the labor costs should include only the basic labor rate. All other labor-related costs (PAC s, fringe benefits, supervision, rental equipment, etc.) should be included with the field indirects.
