Both with my own manuscripts and with manuscripts that 1 consider as an editor, the most annoying comments are publish without change and no further discussion, or this is too specialized and do not publish without any qualifications or discussion of why this is so. Especially useful comments point to relevant work that is not referenced in the paper. Most authors try very hard to do a good literature search, but given the scope of the scientific literature and the fact that, for many types of papers, relevant work can appear in different fields, they may miss some important references. It is very helpful when a knowledgeable reviewer can point out other work that bears on the manuscript and has not been referenced. Of course, if reviewers note typographical errors, problems with style, or lack of clarity, that is useful, although that is not central to consideration of a manuscript. [Pg.158]

Safety knowledge reviews and work observations should be routinely performed by the supervisor to measure the effectiveness of the company s safety program, training, PPE, compliance etc. At a minimum, the work observation form should include the employee s name, job title, year/date, supervisor name, work task(subject observed), OK/deviation, comments, and corrective action. This documentation should be maintained in the employee personnel file or a computerized file designed for this purpose. This information will be helpful in evaluating the company s accident prevention plan and will be used during an OSHA audit to document the company s safety training requirements. [Pg.17]
