Calcitriol is a non-ionizable and water-insoluble calcium-regulator intended for the treatment of hypocalcemia. Calcitriol is formulated as a solution in a fractionated medium-chain triglyceride of coconut oil, along with the antioxidants BHA and butylated hydroxy toluene (BHT), as 0.25 pg and 0.5 pg Rocaltrol soft gelatin capsules, which have been available in the UK since 1996, and are also available in the USA. Rocaltrol is also available (USA only) as a 1 pg/mL oral solution formulated in a fractionated triglyceride of palm seed oil. Calcitriol is not available in Japan, but a similar molecule, falecalcitriol, is available and marketed as a conventional solid tablet formulation. The dose of calcitriol is 0.25-0.5 pg (one capsule) and the product should be stored at controlled room temperature. [Pg.291]

Sirolimus is a non-ionizable and water-insoluble immunosuppressant that is formulated in Rapamune as a 1 mg/mL solution in polysorbate 80 and the proprietary excipient combination, Phosal 50 PG , which is composed of phosphatidylcholine, propylene glycol, mono- and diglycerides, 1.5-2.5% ethanol, soy fatty acids and ascorbyl pahnitate. The oral bioavailability of... [Pg.303]

Mechlorethamine is the only aliphatic nitrogen mustard currently on the U.S. market (Fig. 42.3). Its use is limited by extremely high reactivity, which leads to rapid and nonspecific alkylation of cellular nucleophiles and excessive toxicity. It is a severe vesicant, and if accidental skin contact occurs, the drug must be inactivated with 2% sodium thiosulfate (Na2S203) solution. This reagent reacts with the mustard to create an inactive, highly ionized, and water-soluble thiosulfate ester that can be washed away (Fig. 42.4). The affected tissue also should be treated with an ice compress for 6 to 12 hours. [Pg.1781]

This type of analysis requires several chromatographic columns and detectors. Hydrocarbons are measured with the aid of a flame ionization detector FID, while the other gases are analyzed using a katharometer. A large number of combinations of columns is possible considering the commutations between columns and, potentially, backflushing of the carrier gas. As an example, the hydrocarbons can be separated by a column packed with silicone or alumina while O2, N2 and CO will require a molecular sieve column. H2S is a special case because this gas is fixed irreversibly on a number of chromatographic supports. Its separation can be achieved on certain kinds of supports such as Porapak which are styrene-divinylbenzene copolymers. This type of phase is also used to analyze CO2 and water. [Pg.71]

Writing the equation in the usual way directs too much attention to the atoms and not enough to the electrons We can remedy that by deleting any spec tator ions and by showing the unshared electron pairs and covalent bonds that are made and broken Both sodium hydroxide and sodium fluoride are com pletely ionized in water therefore Na" which ap pears on both sides of the equation is a spectator ion Hydrogen fluoride is a weak acid and exists as undissociated HF molecules in water... [Pg.34]

According to the Arrhenius definitions an acid ionizes m water to pro duce protons (H" ) and a base produces hydroxide ions (HO ) The strength of an acid is given by its equilibrium constant for ionization m aqueous solution... [Pg.49]

Reaction (5.N) describes the nylon salt nylon equilibrium. Reactions (5.0) and (5.P) show proton transfer with water between carboxyl and amine groups. Since proton transfer equilibria are involved, the self-ionization of water, reaction (5.Q), must also be included. Especially in the presence of acidic catalysts, reactions (5.R) and (5.S) are the equilibria of the acid-catalyzed intermediate described in general in reaction (5.G). The main point in including all of these equilibria is to indicate that the precise concentration of A and B... [Pg.306]

Perfluorinated carboxylic acids are corrosive liquids or solids. The acids are completely ionized in water. The acids are of commercial significance because of their unusual acid strength, chemical stabiUty, high surface activity, and salt solubiUty characteristics. The perfluoroaLkyl acids with six carbons or less are hquids the higher analogues are soHds (Table 1). [Pg.310]

Stabihty depends mosdy on purity, with purer materials having longer shelf Hves (1). For the higher alkyl groups, the anhydrous compounds are soluble and the monohydrates are insoluble in ether. Solutions in water are strongly ionized and acidic. The lower dialkyl sulfates are Hquids with faint but pleasant odors n-nonyX and higher normal aHphatic and cycHc sulfates are soHds. [Pg.198]

Dissolution of ionic and ionizable solutes in water is favored by ion—dipole bonds between ions and water. Figure 6 illustrates a hydrated sodium ion,... [Pg.210]

Mass speetrometry has been used to eharaeterize mieroeystins using the method of fast-atom bombardment (FAB) ionization and MS/MS. Anatoxin-a has been analysed by MS in eombination with gas ehromatography in bloom and water samples, and in benthie eyanobaeterial material and stomaeh eontents of poisoned animals.Reeently, liquid ehromatography (LC) linked to MS has been employed to analyse mieroeystins, where FAB-MS and atmospherie-pressiire ionization (API-MS) have been used, and anatoxin-a, where thermospray (TSP-MS) was iised. ... [Pg.119]

Multiple pathways are a major concern since depostion of PIC would have occurred. Specific soil conditions determine attenuation rates of penta PIC leachate. Once penta reaches the water table, other transport and fate processes become important. Penta exists in two forms ionized and non-ionized. The ionized form is soluble in water, while the non-ionized form is not. The ratio of the two forms in water is dependent on the pH of the aquifer. In alkaline environments penta PIC tend to be more soluble and more susceptible to advective transport and biological decay. Half-lives of penta leachate in groundwater have been estimated ranging from 27 days to 58 years. [Pg.337]

Like strong acid resins, strong base resins are highly ionized and can be used over the entire pH range. These resins are used in the hydroxide (OH) form for water deionization. They will react with anions in solution and can convert an acid solution to pure water ... [Pg.395]

The quantities AH and AH require consideration. These are molar heats of ionization at the conditions of the kinetic measurements. The thermodynamic heat of ionization of water in pure water, A//°, is a function of temperature Hamed and Owen - pp give for this quantity... [Pg.257]

The reactivity of the coordinated, deprotonated nucleophile is typically intermediate between that of the un-ionized and ionized forms of the nucleophile. Carboxypeptidase (Chapter 5) contains an active site Zn, which facilitates deprotonation of a water molecule in this manner. [Pg.512]
