Intraarterial injections

Time to depurate or biotransform 50% of accumulated PAHs (Tb 1/2) varied widely. Tb 1/2 values for Daphnia pulex and all PAH compounds studied ranged between 0.4 and 0.5 h (Southworth et al. 1978). In rainbow trout given an intraarterial injection of 10 mg/kg BW of 2-methylnaphtha-lene, fluorene, or pyrene, the Tb 1/2 values ranged between 9.6 and 12.8 h when route of exposure was intragastric and doses were 50 mg/kg BW, there was negligible uptake (Kennedy and Law 1990). For marine copepods and naphthalene, a Tb 1/2 of about 36 h was recorded (Neff 1982a). [Pg.1375]

The radiological effects of thorium were examined by testing isotopes with shorter radioactive half-lives than thorium-232. No increased mortality was found in mice injected intravenously with 0.5 ml Thorotrast (3660 mg thorium-232/kg) (Guimaraes et al. 1955), or in dogs after intraarterial injection of thorium nitrate (476 mg thorium-232/kg), but the LDsofor intravenously- injected thorium-230 in rats was 42.7 mg thorium/kg (Boone et al. 1958). The toxic effects of thorium were attributed to radiological and not chemical effects (Boone et al. 1958). [Pg.63]

Peripheral vascular diseases Infusion or intraarterial injection of prostacyclin (PGI ) improves potency of blood vessels in certain peripheral vascular diseases. Infusion of PGI can also reduce the infarct size in immediate postmyocardial infarction period. [Pg.227]

Triethylene glycol diglycidyl ether was first prepared in 1962, but has been produced commercially only on a small scale in the United Kingdom for use as an antineoplastic drug given by intravenous or intraarterial injection (lARC, 1976). [Pg.1539]

IM Note Significant tissue necrosis may occur if given SC. Inadvertent intraarterial injection may produce severe arteriospasm, resulting in severe circulation impairment. Inject deep IM. [Pg.273]

Focal necrosis around the vessels 24 h after intraarterial injection was found in only one series [22], whereas oedema post PDT was deseribed by almost all authors. [Pg.220]

The delivery of radioactive isotopes via vascular-borne microparticles to internal tumors dates back to 1947 when Muller and Rossier infused Zn and Au to treat renal cell metastases to the lungs, previously irradiated for bronchial carcinoma. Radioactive carbon particles that were used were 40-50 pm in diameter and were successfully trapped in bronchial tumors [1,2]. Di Matteo reported the most extensive experience using Au particles delivered by intraarterial injection to treat lung carcinoma, but subsequently abandoned this approach in favor of microsphere therapy [3]. Although most clinical experience is with °Y, a variety of solid tumors have been treated with intraarterial particles suspended in solution as the therapeutic isotope [4-6],... [Pg.3]

Gastric ischemia There have been several case reports of gastric ischemia after endoscopic injection therapy. Inadvertent intraarterial injection may result in either spasm or thrombosis, leading to subsequent tissue ischemia or necrosis, although the stomach has a rich vascular supply and the vascular reserve of the intramural... [Pg.183]

Intraarterial injection of as many as 15 consecutive doses of synthetic bradykinin, 20-200 micrograms per 600 mis. of perfusing blood, given over a period of 6 hours, caused repeatedly a fall in blood pressure.
