Searching of one or more on-line databases is a technique increasingly used ia novelty studies. The use of such databases enables the searcher to combine indexing parameters, including national and international classifications natural language words ia the full text of patents, ia their claims, or ia abstracts suppHed by iaventor and by professional documentation services and indexing systems of various sorts. Because the various patent databases have strengths and weaknesses that complement each other, the use of multiple databases is thus pmdent, and is faciUtated by multifile and cross-file techniques provided by the various on-line hosts. [Pg.57]

The review of the data portion of the Indian Point 2 (IP2) and 3 (IPS) PRA (a 1982 internal document prepared by Consolidated Edison and the New York Power Authority) is confined to the plant-specific and generic component failure and service hour data sections because these were the only segments available to the reviewers. The LERs produced during a ten-year span of IP2 s operation were evaluated to determine their applicability to the PRA data needs. It was eventually decided to use only the LERs generated after IP2 became critical (from May 23, 1973 to December 31, 1979) for the component data base development, based on the availability of failure event information and more uniform operability, testing, and reporting criteria. [Pg.119]

Those wishing to find out more about these items should consult the various publications of the Internal Revenue Service. They can most easily be located by using the United States Government Publication Index, which is available in most large libraries. The International Tracing Service in Arolsen, Germany, has delivered documents via the German Federal Ministry of the Interior, which prove more facts ... [Pg.177]

Documents Known at the Time of the Verdict On January 28, 1988, one day before the verdict was announced, the Wuppertal Court received documents about the typhus illness of Freimark, the only witness for the prosecution, via the International Tracing Service. Instead of involving an medical expert in the assessment, the court judged itself in its absolute power because of the urgency of the case . [Pg.177]

The above quoted letter of the International Tracing Service additionally proves that the Wuppertal judge Klein did not even try to search for more detailed documents about Freimark s illness. Judge Klein has told the Tracing Service that the only question decisive for this trial would be if the witness Freimark was still interned in Auschwitz in September 18, 1944.89... [Pg.178]

A system should be established to provide a quality indicator of the overall internal dosimetry service performance. One such system is a routine programme of equipment and procedure testing. All test results should be documented, together with any resulting modifications to procedures. [Pg.57]

Standards and Specifications, prepared by the National Standards Association, Inc., is available on line through the Dialog Information Retrieval Service, Palo Alto, CA. It references over 113,000 U.S. and International documents, including standards from ASTM, ANSI, the U.S. Federal Government and Military, and SAE, as well as others. In addition to information on the standard and its acceptance by ANSI and DOD, vendors of products and services conforming to the standard are given. Hard copy of many of the standards is also available from the National Standards Association. [Pg.114]

International Support. As suggested before, the scientific audience is an international one, and the user has a right to expect local support whenever possible. This means getting search questions and software questions answered by a person who is not only knowledgeable about the problem, but also a speaker of the user s language and reachable without a transoceanic telephone call. The user in Germany, for example, should not be required to call the United States to ask about how to link up with the DATEX-P network. Many searching problems may in fact be domestic problems that are best answered locally. Similarly, if the user simply wants replacement copies of lost software or documentation, those items are best delivered by a nearby service center. We believe such support centers are key components of a truly international information service. [Pg.63]

Cast iron is not a recommended constmction material for oleum. It is weU-documented that cast iron fails catastrophically by cracking in oleum service. The mechanism or the cause of cracking is not well understood, but failures result from a buildup of internal stresses within the cast iron. One notable exception is process iron, a proprietary cast iron of Chas. S. Lewis Co. (St. Louis, Missouri). Process iron has been used successfiiUy in oleum service. [Pg.188]
