DIALOG Information Retrieval Service

Federal Index This data base covers virtually all federal documents issued between October 1976 and the present. Available from Capitol Services, Inc., Washington, D.C., the Federal Index covers proposed rules, regulations, speeches, bill introductions, congressional hearings, court decisions, executive orders, Washington Post articles, as well as all Federal Register documents. The cost for one hour of on-line connect time is 90.00 for subscribers to Lockheed s Dialog Information Retrieval Service. 

Lockheed The DIALOG Information Retrieval Service, from Lockheed Information Systems, has been serving users since 1972. The DIALOG service has over 100 data bases, several of which are relevant to chemical industry needs. These include those which follow. 

CHEMSEARCH 183,876 chemical substances, derived from CA Search (File 4), biweekly updates, (DIALOG Information Retrieval Service, Palo Alto, CA and Chemical Abstracts Service, Columbus, OH). 

The ROSDAL string is maintained by the Beilstein Institute and is essentially in the pubhc domain, thus it is available for use by software developers and information speciahsts to formulate queries for the Dialog Information Retrieval Service. The advantage of the ROSDAL string is that it contains an ASCII set of characters and can be easily communicated using standard telecommunications networks. In addition, the string is easily generated manually and can be interpreted manually to provide structural display. 

Standards and Specifications, prepared by the National Standards Association, Inc., is available on line through the Dialog Information Retrieval Service, Palo Alto, CA. It references over 113,000 U.S. and International documents, including standards from ASTM, ANSI, the U.S. Federal Government and Military, and SAE, as well as others. In addition to information on the standard and its acceptance by ANSI and DOD, vendors of products and services conforming to the standard are given. Hard copy of many of the standards is also available from the National Standards Association.

Many libraries also have available the Dialog, BRS, Orbit, and STN International Retrieval Services, which are online computer information retrieval services. All the Predicast data, the Applied Science and Technology Index, CA Search, Chemical Industry Notes, CSCORP, and Kirk-Othmer are searchable through these services.
