Contrast Sensitivity S For this purpose a test piece is used whose least material thickness to be resolved in the video signal corresponds to the contrast sensitivity. The test piece can be a step/hole image quality indicator as per EN 462-2. 

In general, the performance of a radioscopic system should always be checked via test pieces with natural flaws. To ensure an additional comparability, standardized image quality indicators have to be used to control the essential image quality parameters such as spatial resolution (unsharpness) and contrast sensitivity.

The quality grading system relates to uniformity of distribution across the tower cross-section, where 100% quality indicates ideal uniform distribution. Distributors are designed to suit the system, particularly the packing type and size. 

NOTE Compare this with similar problems in CW systems—those of easily and accurately (and at low-cost) determining levels of microbiological contamination. In most CW systems, apart from a general maintenance quality indicator, the levels of bulk water planktonic organisms tend to have little relevance to sessile organism-biofilm reactions occurring at the metal-water interface.

Another external response to concerns about MCOs has been an increased interest in measuring the quality of care they deliver [35]. This interest has resulted in the development of numerous quality indicators. One example, HEDIS (Health Plan Employer Data and Information Set), is a standardized set of performance indicators used to compare health plans. Developed by the National Committee for Quality Assurance, HEDIS measures allow employers and employees to evaluate different plans. Only a small number of HEDIS indicators are related to medication use, but more drug-related indicators are likely to be added in the future. The use of quality indicators likely will increase as the measures become more refined and tested.

The final consideration in operationalizing a taxon is the number of indicators. Generally, greater numbers are preferred. MAXCOV requires at least three indicators and simulations suggest that three may work reasonably well, but this number is far from ideal. In a large simulation study, Beauchaine and Beauchaine (2002) found that an increase in indicator numbers from three to four and from four to five produced considerable incremental improvement. However, six appeared to be a point of diminishing returns that is, five indicators performed almost as well as six. Moreover, MAXCOV outputs for six or more indicators are rather unwieldy. We believe it is better to have a few high quality indicators than to add low quality indicators to the set just to increase their number.
