Acyl halides are intermediates of the carbonylations of alkenes and organic-halides. Decarbonylation of acyl halides as a reversible process of the carbo-nylation is possible with Pd catalyst. The decarbonylation of aliphatic acid chlorides proceeds with Pd(0) catalyst, such as Pd on carbon or PdC, at around 200 °C[109,753]. The product is a mixture of isomeric internal alkenes. For example, when decanoyl chloride is heated with PdCF at 200 C in a distillation flask, rapid evolution of CO and HCl stops after I h, during which time a mixture of nonene isomers was distilled off in a high yield. The decarbonylation of phenylpropionyl chloride (883) affords styrene (53%). In addition, l,5-diphenyl-l-penten-3-one (884) is obtained as a byproduct (10%). formed by the insertion of styrene into the acyl chloride. Formation of the latter supports the formation of acylpalladium species as an intermediate of the decarbonylation. Decarbonylation of the benzoyl chloride 885 can be carried out in good yields at 360 with Pd on carbon as a catalyst, yielding the aryl chloride 886[754].

Rich sources of vitamin A include dairy products such as milk cheese, butter, and ice cream. Eggs as well as internal organs such as the Hver, kidney, and heart also represent good sources. In addition, fish such as herring, sardines, and tuna, and in particular the Hver oil from certain marine organisms, are excellent sources. Because the vitamin A in these food products is derived from dietary carotenoids, vitamin A content can vary considerably. Variation of vitamin A content in food can also result from food processing and in particular, oxidation processes (8).

The main purpose for the heating and air conditioning of work spaces is to provide an environment that is acceptable and does not impair the health and performance of the occupants. During production processes and in the external environment it may be necessary to work in unacceptable conditions for a limited time period. However, it must be ensured that these conditions do not impair the health of the employees. Light, noise, air quality, and the thermal environment are all factors that influence the acceptability of conditions for and performance of the occupants. This section will only deal with the thermal environment. Several standards dealing with methods for the evaluation of the thermal environment have been published by international standard organizations such as ISO and CEN.

Although natural selection is the only evolutionary agent that adapts organisms to their environments, the course of evolution has been profoundly influenced by major environmental changes, some of which had catastrophic effects. Some of these events resulted from Earth s internal processes, such as the activity of volcanoes and the shifting and colliding of continents. Others were the result of external events, such as collision of meteorites with Earth. 

The largest releases of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are due to the incomplete combustion of organic compounds during the course of industrial processes and other human activities. Important sources include the combustion of coal, crude oil, and natural gas for both industrial and domestic purposes, the use of such materials in industrial processes (e.g., the smelting of iron ore), the operation of the internal combustion engine, and the combustion of refuse (see Environmental Health Criteria 202, 1998). The release of crude oil into the sea by the offshore oil industry and the wreckage of oil tankers are important sources of PAH in certain areas.
