Intended interpretation

Representative sampling consistent with intended interpretation of measurement... [Pg.547]

For convenience, correctness criteria are here defined wrt a Herbrand interpretation 3, called the intended interpretation, which is such that the following conditions hold ... [Pg.87]

An access control policy is enforced when the behavior of the system matches the intended interpretation of the observe and alter functions. This requires the following conditions - called the Reference Monitor assumptions - to be satisfied. [Pg.250]

In concluding the book we cannot avoid to point out some particulars about thermophysical measurements, which are generally understood to be the conversion of a selected physical quantity, worthy of attention due to its intended interpretability with respect to the basic quantity, i.e., the quantity that can be identified and revealed with the available instrumentation [1,3,15,672,673]. Such basic quantities are usually electric voltage and current, or sometimes frequency. If the originally recorded physical quantities are not electrical, various transducers are employed to convert them duly (e.g., pressure, temperature, etc.). The measurements thus yields data on the sample state on the basis of the response of physical quantities investigated under certain measuring conditions applied, i.e., experimental conditions to which the measured object (that is called sample) is subjected. The initial conditions are understood as a certain set of these physical parameters adjusted and then applied to the sample. [Pg.378]

The first of them to determine the LMA quantitatively and the second - the LF qualitatively Of course, limit of sensitivity of the LF channel depends on the rope type and on its state very close because the LF are detected by signal pulses exceeding over a noise level. The level is less for new ropes (especially for the locked coil ropes) than for multi-strand ropes used (especially for the ropes corroded). Even if a skilled and experienced operator interprets a record, this cannot exclude possible errors completely because of the evaluation subjectivity. Moreover it takes a lot of time for the interpretation. Some of flaw detector producers understand the problem and are intended to develop new instruments using data processing by a computer [6]. [Pg.335]

Accounting is also the language of business, and the different departments of management use it to communicate within a broad context of financial and cost terms. Engineers involved in feasibihty studies and detailed process evaluations are dependent for financi information on the company accountants, especially for information on the way in which the company intends to allocate its overhead costs. It is vital that engineers correctlv interpret such information and that they can, if necessaiy, make tlie accountants understand the effect of the chosen method of allocation. [Pg.837]

In the original announcement of the workshop the participants were told that everything was to be taken from methanol synthesis except the kinetics. Some may have interpreted this to mean that the known thermodynamic equilibrium information of the methanol synthesis is not valid when taken together with the kinetics. This was not intended, but... [Pg.138]

In 1991, the Verband der Automobilindustrie e. V. (VDA) published VDA 6.1, Quality Spstem Audit, a questionnaire on quality system evaluation based on DIN EN ISQ 9004. VDA 6 is a series of guides covering the basics for quality audits, auditing, and certification. They were therefore not intended as supplementary requirements to ISQ 9000 but as guides for auditors performing audits of automotive suppliers. Their intention was to improve auditor competency in the industry by providing a uniform interpretation of ISQ 9000 requirements and a common approach to automotive audits. VDA 6.1 has been revised several times and is currently in its fourth edition. There are nine volumes in the series (see Appendix A). [Pg.6]

Active Error/Failure An active human error is an unintended action or an intended action based on a mistaken diagnosis, interpretation, or other failure, which is not recovered and which has significant negative consequences for the system. [Pg.42]

Special Note Nothing in this specification should be interpreted as indicating a preference by the committee for any material or process, nor as indicating equality between the various materials or processes. In the selection of materials and processes, the purchaser must be guided by his or her experience and by the service for which the pipe is intended. [Pg.1132]

The examination of this idea has subsequently formed an integral part of my research in the philosophy of chemistry. This has also led to a certain amount of disagreement with other authors who appear to interpret Lowdin s remark in a somewhat different manner (Ostrovsky, 2001). I now deeply regret not having contacted Lowdin directly in order to seek his own clarification. In the present contribution I intend to revisit this question and to take the opportunity to respond to some critics as well as hopefully injecting some new ideas into the discussion. [Pg.92]

Of course, a more charitable interpretation of Bent and Weinhold s statement might be to emphasize that quantum mechanics provides an approximate explanation for the periodic table, whereas the periodic table itself was merely a successful classification awaiting a theoretical explanation. But one cannot help thinking that this interpretation is not what the authors had in mind. What they intended... [Pg.136]

As reviewed throughout this book one must determine what measures were taken to evaluate the materials. Carefully study the test results and test methods that are employed in obtaining these properties and their interpretation for application purposes (Chapter 5), and finally determine the fine details of use conditions to establish the suitability of a plastic material for the intended product. It is easily accomplished to determine the plastic to be used but requires familiarity with the test results being evaluated and behavior of plastics to meet your performance requirements. [Pg.23]

A range of symbolic conventions is used in representing atomic and molecular stractures at the electronic level. So for example double and triple lines are used for multiple bonds. This seems a clear convention, which helps keep check of valency rales. However the symbol = for a double bond is not intended to imply two equal bonds (which the symmetry of the symbol could seem to suggest) as u and TT components have different geometries, contributions to bond strength , and consequences for chemical properties. The novice learner may well find interpreting such representations a considerable challenge. [Pg.80]

Communication is the process of sending information from one location to another or from one person to another by means that enable the sender to send the information to the intended recipient and the intended recipient to receive, retrieve, and interpret the information. Locations and individuals can be geographically dispersed or within the confines of an organization, where information can flow between individuals with various types of communication including direct contact. [Pg.599]

Randomization refers to the process of assigning subjects by chance to treatments. This eliminates known and unknown sources of bias that could interfere with accurate interpretation of the study results. The main problem that randomization is intended to prevent is bias in subject selection. Without randomization, investigators might consciously or subconsciously select subjects to receive the active treatment, which, they believe, are most likely to respond. History shows that uncontrolled studies are much more likely to provide exaggerated support in favor of the effectiveness of a treatment than properly controlled trials (Pocock, 1983). Therefore, whenever possible, randomization should be used in order to help insure a fair and unbiased evaluation of the intervention under study. [Pg.238]
