Inlet chute

In earlier cooler designs a sloping inlet chute was provided, on which the clinker fell before rebounding into the actual cooler This chute was usually lined with a water-cooled distributing plate to prevent accretions of hot clinker ("snowmen"). Cooling this plate, however, caused a heat loss of about 0.063 GJ/t of clinker (15kcal/kg). [Pg.191]

Another part where problems are liable to arise is the inlet chute on which accretions ("snowmen") are formed, especially in large installations with a considerable height of fall of the hot clinker. Remedial measures consist in watercooling the chute or equipping it with an automatic dislodging device. [Pg.210]

Another very useful aid is television monitoring of the bed of clinker on the grate, including the inlet chute. [Pg.616]

For this to occur, all resistances in current loops 1, 2 and 3 for the cyclone on the left side of the figure must be equal to their counterparts on the right side of the figure. These resistances include that of the inlet chute, the wall, the vortex core, the chimney, the plenum chimney and that of the cone discharge opening, for the case illustrated in Fig. 11.5.1. If this conditions is met then,... [Pg.249]

Funk furthermore reported that the tight turn inward and downward might also contribute to separation (i.e., improve separation performance). On the other hand, the writers are aware of at least two separate commercial fluid bed primary cyclone installations that have experienced serious erosive wear at the location of the white dots shown in Fig. 12.1.4 and which have exhibited rather poor separation performance. In both cases the height of the vortex finder below the roof line, i.e., its penetration, was substantially less than the height of the inlet chute, allowing particles that were deflected inwards to short-circuit the cyclone. Obviously, this is an area deserving of further investigation. [Pg.266]

If the material is introduced in solid form down a chute, the position at which the particles are deposited will be determined by the rate at which they lose the horizontal component of their velocities. The larger particles will therefore be carried further forward and the smaller particles will be deposited near the inlet. The position at which the particles are deposited may be calculated using the relations given in Chapter 3. [Pg.40]

The shape of the outlet is the next consideration, in particular whether it should be circular, square or elongated. If there is a need to interface with downstream equipment such as a standpipe, this often requires the outlet to be circular because most standpipes are circular (to be able to effectively withstand explosion pressures). If the vessel is feeding into a pressurised environment, either a standpipe or a special type of feeder may be required, either of which may limit the choice of outlet configuration. Another aspect is the flexibility of location of the inlet point to downstream equipment, for example a conveyor or process vessel. If this downstream inlet is offset from the vessel centreline, a circular or square outlet will have to be followed by a conveyor or sloping chute, either of which may be unacceptable. Using an elongated outlet with a screw or belt feeder may be a better choice. [Pg.88]

Unlike the chute which must be set at a relatively large declined angle to ensure that the bulk will slide against the chute surface, most vibratory conveyors are used for horizontal or near horizontal conveying with the exception of vibratory elevators which will be discussed later. They can convey on moderate (about 15°) upward and downward slopes. It is possible to design in multiple inlets and outlets to the conveyor. The outlets can either be a series of gates in the trough, or otherwise the stream can be split in some way to provide a number of... [Pg.228]

The air-assisted gravity conveyor or air slide is generally constructed from modular components giving a reasonably wide flexibility of design. For example, it is relatively easy to construct a system with multiple inlets and outlets, to divert oversize material and curve the chute around comers to deliver to all parts of the plant. Of course, the declination must be maintained over the length or else the flow will halt. [Pg.238]

The screened coal is stored in bunkers with 8-24 h hold-up for one gasifier each. It is transported on conveyer belts to the top of the gasifier and filled via a feeding chute into the coal lock (see Figure 6.36). The coal lock is a sluice consisting of a pressure vessel, an inlet cone valve at the top, and an outlet cone valve at the bottom. Because the task of the coal lock is to bring the coal from ambient pressure to reactor pressure, devices for pressurization and depressurization are... [Pg.248]
