Initial Screening Tests

If the checks for explosibility of the starting materials, reaction mixture, intermediates or product reveal a hazard from deflagration or detonation, then normally the process should be abandoned, unless special precautions are taken as in the manufacture of explosives. Such considerations are not dealt with in this guide. [Pg.27]

Assuming the checks for explosibility have not revealed a hazard from deflagration or detonation, development work can proceed. Information is then required on the exothermicity of the proposed reaction  [Pg.27]

Several small-scale screening tests are characterized by the small sample sizes they require (0.01-10 g) and by the speed with which they can be performed. They include differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and various forms of differential thermal analysis (DTA) the insulated exotherm test (lET), decomposition pressure test (DPT) and the ICI 10 g sealed tube test. Commercial variants of such tests are also available. [Pg.28]

The main disadvantage of these screening tests is that the test conditions tend towards being isothermal (whereas the conditions in a reactor runaway are nearer adiabatic). This can mean that the tests are not always sufficiently sensitive, and that the measured onset temperature for thermal decomposition is a function of the sample heating rate. Also, the small sample size may lead to it being unrepresentative of plant materials, and evaporation losses can lead to errors unless sealed test cells are used. [Pg.28]

The tests are described below and References 14. 30, 31 and 32 give practical details. [Pg.28]

Perform initial screening tests to confirm the presence of adrenal insufficiency. [Pg.692]

Initial screening tests to confirm the presence of hypercorti-solism and differentiate Cushing s syndrome from conditions with similar presentations include 24-hour urinary free cortisol determination and overnight low-dose dexam-ethasone suppression test (DST) (Table 42-9). [Pg.694]

Perform initial screening tests to confirm Cushing s syndrome and rule out those with pseudo-Cushing s conditions (in other words, until it is determined that it is not a pseudo-Cushing s syndrome). [Pg.699]

Patients with type 2 DM should have a routine urinalysis at diagnosis as the initial screening test for albuminuria. If positive, a 24-hour urine for quantitative assessment will assist in developing a treatment plan. If the urinalysis is negative for protein, a test to evaluate the presence of microalbuminuria is recommended. [Pg.239]

The assay described above has a limited sensitivity (80-85%) to detect patients, especially patients with the so-called variant biochemical phenotype, and should be considered as an initial screening test [52, 55]. For increased sensitivity the cells should be cultured in medium with 10% lipoprotein-deficient medium (LPDS) for 2 days and subsequently with medium supplemented with 10% fresh human serum as described below for low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-stimulated cholesteryl ester formation. [Pg.371]

An initial screening test was developed to measure the peracid release of a fully formulated chelant-free detergent powder to which equimolar amounts of chelants were added. Peracid release was measured at 40 °C over 30 min in a synthetic hard water with transition metal ions added at ppm levels representative of those found in wash liquors of a typical washing machine with added soil [36] Ca 76, Mg 15, Fe... [Pg.303]

Initial screening tests were performed without oxygen in the reactant feed. Table 1 lists the results obtained with different catalysts. Depending on the catalyst used, the GLC-analysis of the condensed reactor effluents showed the presence of at least 4 compounds, which could be separated by preparative GLC. Structure elucidation of the isolated compounds was done by GLC-MS analysis and NMR-spectroscopy. [Pg.415]

Surfactants that did well in the initial screening tests were tested further in high-pressure sight cells at reservoir conditions. The best performers were then tested in... [Pg.347]

For the Initial screening test of catalysis, die engine exhaust gas was passed through the catalyst beds (13 cc by volume) in a mulii-convcner (ref.3) in otder to compare the catalyst activities simultaneously. A four-siroke ga.solinc engine (engine displacement 1,500 cc)... [Pg.557]

Initial screening tests for the previously listed drugs are typically immunoassays (e.g., EMIT, FPIA, CEDIA, microparticle immunoassay, and RIA see Chapter 9). These assays are calibrated at established cutoff concentrations. Specimens yielding responses greater than the cutoff (threshold) value are considered positive, whereas values below the cutoff are considered negative. Cutoff values are not synonymous with assay detection limits. Instead the... [Pg.1318]

For confirmation, quantitative drug measurements are performed using selective ion monitoring with GC-MS. Cutoff values for confirmation are established at or generally below cutoff values for the initial screening tests (Table 34-8 also see Table 34-9 for newly proposed cutoff values). The result may be reported as positive or negative relative to the... [Pg.1319]

The initial screening test for amphetamine and metham-phetamine is typically immunoassay. For confirmation of a presumptive positive test, a quantitative drug measurement is performed using GC-MS. [Pg.1324]

The other oxide additions were made at a standard 0.2 cation % level in order to determine the relative effectiveness of the various additions. An initial screening test of 20 X 2h cycles at 1200°C was used in order to assess the performance of the various dopants. Sample weight change data are shown in Figure 9. As a baseline, Kanthal APM shows almost no spallation during this test with a weight change almost identical to that measured isothermally [18],... [Pg.190]

Initially, screening tests for putative diuretics are generally carried out on rats. There are two types of tests which are of interest here. First, using saline-... [Pg.35]
