Initial margin

Selection of an adhesive whose adhesive or cohesive strength is initially marginal or poor. In the case of two-part systems, poor strength may be due to using non-stoichiometric ratios of resin to hardener. [Pg.294]

The start proceeds of a repo can be less than the market value of the collateral by an agreed amount or percentage. This is known as the initial margin or haircut. The initial margin protects the buyer against ... [Pg.339]

In both classic repo and sell/buyback, any initial margin is given to the supplier of cash in the transaction. This remains true in the case of specific repo. For initial margin the market value of the bond collateral is reduced (or given a haircut ) by the percentage of the initial margin and the nominal value determined from this reduced amount. In a stock loan transaction the lender of stock will ask for margin. [Pg.339]

In the final analysis margin is required to guard against market risk—the risk that the value of collateral will drop during the course of the repo. Therefore the margin call must reflect the risks prevalent in the market at the time extremely volatile market conditions may call for large increases in initial margin. [Pg.340]

The rupture process of a soap film is of some interest. In the case of a film spanning a frame, as in Fig. XIV-15, it is known that rupture tends to originate at the margin, as shown in the classic studies of Mysels [207, 211]. Rupture away from a border may occur spontaneously but is usually studied by using a spark [212] as a trigger (a-radia-tion will also initiate rupture [213]). An aureole or ridge of accumulated material may be seen on the rim of the growing hole [212, 214] (see also Refs. 215, 216). Theoretical analysis has been in the form of nucleation [217, 218] or thin-film instability [219]. [Pg.523]

Economic concerns. Many companies are unaware of the economic advantages associated with poUiition prevention. Legitimate concerns may include decreased profit margins or the lack of funds required for the initial capital investment. [Pg.2168]

The life of the insulation will also be affected by an excessive operating temperature. It is halved for every 11°C rise in temperature over its rated value and occurs when a machine is occasionally overloaded. Sometimes the size of the machine may be only marginal when it was initially chosen and with the passage of time, it may be required to perform duties that are too arduous. Every time the machine overheats, the insulation deteriorates, and this is called thermal ageing of insulation. Figure 9.1 illustrates an approximate reduction in life expectancy with a rise in operating temperature. [Pg.221]

The first step-in plant-system and accident-sequence analysis is the identification of earthquake-induced initiating events. This is done by reviewing the internal analysis initiating events to identify initiating events relevant to seismic risk. For example. Table 5,1 -5 shows the initiating events that were used in the Seismic Safety Margins Research Program for a PWR plant (Smith et al., 1981)... [Pg.194]

In the multistep swelling and polymerization method, polymerization time, temperature, and initiator concentration have marginal effects only. The ratio of monovinyl to divinyl monomer in the polymerization mixture, along with the composition of the porogenic systems, is known to be the most important factor in controlling the ultimate macroporous structure. The average molecular... [Pg.18]

There are two distinct stages in viscosity change with the addition of NBR in the blend. First, there is a rapid rise of viscosity with the initial addition of NBR, then beyond 50% of NBR, viscosity increases slowly, except for the preheated blends where viscosity decreases marginally at the higher level of NBR. [Pg.614]

In the very early phases of the acute inflammatory response most of the cells invading the damaged area are polymorphonuclear neutrophils, also denoted as PMNs, which serve as initial line of defense and source of proinflammatory cytokines. These cells, which usually live for 4-5 days, circulate in the blood until they are attracted by chemokines into injured tissues. Whereas physical injury does not recruit many neutrophils, infections with bacteria or fungi elicit a striking neutrophil response. The characteristic pus of a bacterial abscess is composed mainly of apoptotic (apoptosis) and necrotic PMNs. Emigration of neutrophils from the blood starts with a process denoted as margination where neutrophils come to lie at the periphery of flowing blood cells and adhere to endothelial cells (Fig. 1). L-Selectin is expressed... [Pg.628]

Thus with aMeSt, the kinetic chain is relatively short, monomer is consumed mainly by initiation and propagation, and chain transfer by the HSiCCHj CH H C Q initiator is unfavorable (see Sect. III.B.3.b.i.). In contrast, with isobutylene the kinetic chain may live longer because it is sustained by thermodynamically favorable chain transfer by the initiator. Scheme 5 illustrates the mechanism of isobutylene polymerization by the HSi(CH3)2CH2CH29>CH2Cl/Me3Al system. The kinetic chain is sustained by chain transfer loops shown on the left margin of the Scheme. [Pg.41]

The pyrotechnic literature does not contain a critical evaluation of the ignition response time. of primary initiators in terms of their compn, temp tolerance and shock sensitivity. In general, primary expls such as Pb Azide or styphnate are selected whenever a brief (microsecond) response is desired, while, for instance, Pb thiocyanate-chlorate mixts are selected when high temps and high radiation environments are encountered, and presumably a longer ignition delay is the price which is paid for the extra margin of safety... [Pg.993]

The experimental work of the groups of Swain and Zollinger on the dediazoniation mechanism of arenediazonium ions, which started in 1975, provided good evidence for the existence of aryl cations as steady state intermediates (see Sec. 8.3). These results also initiated theoretical work on aryl cations, in part combined with further calculations on the structure and reactivity of arenediazonium ions. Publications that contain data on arenediazonium ions and aryl cations will therefore be discussed in the chapter on dediazoniation reactions (Sec. 8.4). In the rest of this section we will concentrate on investigations that are concerned with the geometries and electron densities of diazonium ions but not, or only marginally, with energetics of the dediazoniation reaction. [Pg.86]
