Initial inspection

Because we have come to associate activating substituents with ortho para directing effects and deactivating substituents with meta the properties of the halogen substituents appear on initial inspection to be unusual... [Pg.501]

Monitoring The differential pressure across the arrester element can be monitored to determine the possible need for cleaning. The pressure taps must not create a flame path around the arrester. It can be important to provide temperature sensors, such as thermocouples, at the arrester to detect flame arrival and stabilization. Since arrester function may involve damage to the arrester, the event of successful function (flame arrival) may be used to initiate inspection of the element for damage. If the piping is such that flame stabihzation on the element is a realistic concern, action must be taken immediately upon indication of such stabihzation (see also Endurance Burn ). Such action may involve valve closure to shut off gas flow. [Pg.2302]

As follow up, document the implementation of corrective actions taken by the toller. Keep this documentation with the initial inspection report that lists the deficiencies for which actions were taken. [Pg.37]

In summary, the approach to assessment of acid-base status involves four key steps (1) initial inspection of the pH,... [Pg.424]

If our initial inspection of a data set reveals it to have an unusual or undesired set of characteristics (or to lack a desired set of characteristics), we have a choice of three courses of action. We may proceed to select a method or test appropriate to this new set of conditions, abandon the entire exercise, or transform the variable(s) under consideration in such a manner that the resulting transformed variates (X and Y, for example, as opposed to the original variates X and Y) meet the assumptions or have the characteristics that are desired. [Pg.906]

Thus, initial inspection of the nature of the petroleum will provide deductions about the most logical means of cleanup and any subsequent enviromnental effects. Indeed, careful evaluation of petroleum from physical property data is a major part of the initial study of any petroleum that has been released to the enviromnent. Proper interpretation of the data resulting from the inspection of crude oil requires an understanding of their significance. Consequently, various standards organizations, such as the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM, 2004) in North America and the Institute of Petroleum in the United Kingdom (IP, 2004), have devoted considerable time and effort to the correlation... [Pg.31]

Initial inspection of Figure 10.1 showed what appears to be a cyclical pattern in the clearings and issues. This was confirmed by the statistical process control charts in Figures 10.2-10.4. The broad peaks and valleys in Figure 10.1 seem to repeat every 20 to 25 days. At first, this seemed to be a strange number of days for a cycle - a monthly cycle of 30 or 31 days would have made more sense to some of us. However, the student was quick to point out that the average business month has between 21 and 22 days (365.25 calendar days per year) x (5 business days per week) / (7 calendar days per week) = 260.89 business days per year which, when divided by 12 months, is 21.75 or approximately 22 business days per month. [Pg.182]

Recent initiatives by global organizations such as ISO (International Organization for Standardization, www.iso.org) and ICH (International Conference on Harmonization, www.ich.org) are attempting to bring consistency in concept and standardization in definition to the QMS. In 2004, the Pharmaceutical Inspection Co-Operation Scheme (PIC/S, www.picscheme.org) issued its recommendation on Quality System Requirements for Pharmaceutical Inspectorates. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) initiated inspection surveillance approaches based upon QMS organization and is another source of definition and interpretation. [Pg.242]

Initial inspection of the as-grown crystals, revealed substantial variations in shape, thickness and crystal morphology. Examination with a light microscope showed large differences in surface topography, which were particularly pronounced in WSe2 samples. The main features, found on the surfaces were ... [Pg.19]

The experimentally determined dependence of the Rb NMR chemical shielding on ionic distance is shown in Figure 9A. Upon initial inspection, it can be seen that the halides form three parallel lines. The dependence of the 87Rb shielding on the Rb-X distance is linear for all three halides. The slopes are very similar to each other (about 400 ppm/A), indicating that the sensitivity of the shielding to interionic distance is probably a property of Rb and is independent of the identity of the halide and the other cation. The three halides form three separate but parallel lines due to an offset caused by changing the identity of the halide. [Pg.233]

Initial inspection of the structure of griseofulvin shows the alternate oxygenation pattern, and also a methyl group which identifies the start of the polyketide chain. Cyclization of the Cm poly-( )-keto chain folded as shown allows both... [Pg.77]

Thus, initial inspection of the feedstock (conventional examination of the physical properties) is necessary. From this, it is possible to make deductions about the most logical means of refining. In fact, evaluation of crude oils from physical property data as to which refining sequences should be employed for any particular crude oil is a predominant part of the initial examination of any material that is destined for use as a refinery feedstock. [Pg.54]

Thus, initial inspection of the nature of the feedstock will provide deductions about the most logical means of refining or correlation of various properties to structural types present and hence attempted classification of the petroleum... [Pg.55]

Another common category of descriptive statistics is the measure of dispersion of a set of data about a central value. The range is the arithmetic difference between the greatest (maximum) and the least (minimum) value in a data set. While this characteristic is easily calculated and is useful in initial inspections of data sets,... [Pg.86]

Within this approach lays the possibility of various levels of assistance by the inspected State Party offering equipment, such as the use of inspected site laboratory facilities, fumed hoods, and the like. Such offers are laid down in facility agreements concluded between the inspected site and the OPCW, following an initial inspection. However, fundamental to this approach is that sample preparation and analysis are conducted by OPCW inspectors according to OPCW-approved procedures with equipment that meets OPCW QA/QC criteria. All activities may be witnessed by inspected State Party representatives. [Pg.11]

The hydrogenosomes of the trichomonads (Parabasalia) have been studied intensively for more than 30 years (Lindmark and Muller 1973 Muller 1993). Upon initial inspection, these organelles were considered, both morpho-... [Pg.144]

On initial inspection, the skin is an unlikely route for systemic drug administration. Evolution has provided the mammalian organism with an external covering, the principal function of which is to act as a barrier, specifically to the loss of tissue water. Think about it the concentration of water inside the human body is... [Pg.189]

Initial inspection of the dyed carpet suggested that good color reproducibility and uniformity had been achieved. Ten samples were cut from each of the dyed samples and the color measured on the Diano Colorimeter. Each sample was measured three times to average variations due to instrument changes and sample texture differences. Tristimulus values (X,Y,Z) were calculated from the average of the three measurements. [Pg.208]

After installation of an explosion protected apparatus and before it is brought into service, it shall be given an initial inspection. During service, regular periodic inspections or continuous supervision shall guarantee the safe operation of the apparatus or system. If necessary, maintenance or repair shall be carried out. The standards define different grades of inspection ... [Pg.472]

The initial inspection shall ensure that the type of protection of the apparatus and its installation are appropriate. As a rule, initial inspections shall be detailed inspections. Periodic inspections are of the visual or close type. They shall detect all the factors effecting the deterioration of apparatus, e.g. corrosion, exposure to chemicals or solvents, accumulation of dust or dirt, water ingress, exposure to excessive ambient temperature, mechanical damage, unauthorized modifications or adjustments and inappropriate maintenance. [Pg.478]

Each State Party would have the right to initiate inspections by the Technical Secretariat in civil and miUtary facilities and elsewhere on the territory of any other State Party. [Pg.93]

In addition to the initial inspection of the laboratory the accreditation or certification body will carry out surveillance visits, normally at annual intervals, to confirm that compliance is maintained. A re-assessment visit is carried out every four years. A laboratory may also seek to extend its scope of accreditation at any time by, e.g. seeking accreditation for a new technique. [Pg.61]

The success of the inspection technique led to the development of the Systems Based Approach for full and abbreviated inspections of pharmaceutical and healthcare companies. Full Inspections are conducted for the initial inspection of a facility, or where a facility has a history of poor compliance, or where signihcant changes have taken place, or for any other cause deemed appropriate. Abbreviated Inspections are applicable when a pharmaceutical or healthcare company has a record of GMP compliance, with no signihcant recall or product defect or alert incidents, or with little change in scope or processes comprising the manufacturing operations of the hrm within the last two years. Both full and abbreviated inspection will satisfy biennial inspechon requirements. [Pg.385]

Because the reaction conditions are basic, the next thing to do is to search for protons in the molecule that are acidic and for carbons susceptible to reaction with a nucleophile. At this point, we will look at possible nucleophilic reactions and will return to acidic protons later in the discussion. Two obvious electrophilic carbons are those of the epoxide. Moreover, if the C-2—C-7 bond is formed by nucleophilic reaction of an anion at C-2 on carbon C-7, ring opening of the epoxide would also occur in this step. This ring opening would be a driving force for the reaction. Thus, we should search for steps that would lead to an anion at C-2. This is not likely to be obvious from initial inspection of the product. In addition to the epoxide carbons, electrophilic positions in 7-16 include the carbonyl carbon (C-1) and the positions )8 and S to it (C-3 and C-5). [Pg.440]

Initial inspection focuses on the position of the Veres needle and, if necessary, the position is adjusted. To ensure correct examination, an established inspection schedule has proved useful. When such a schedule is applied as a matter of routine, important findings or additional information will not be overlooked. With extreme changes in position, vertigo, nausea, respiratory distress and a tendency to collapse may be witnessed, but these symptoms rapidly ease off once the body position has been normalized. Altogether, the examination procedure entails 4 different positions. In this way, optimal results can be obtained. [Pg.154]

Upon initial inspection, this expression looks like that given earlier for an A mechanism, but is this the case There is strong support for a separate, distinct mechanism in this case, involving conjugate base formation. From a range of studies, the now accepted mechanism involves a pre-equilibrium deprotonation and a following D mechanism, as illustrated in Figure 5.13. [Pg.152]
