Industrial oils mechanical properties

In the automotive, office equipment, and other industries, the mechanical properties of fluoropolymers are beneficial in low-friction bearings and seals that resist attack by hydrocarbons and other fluids. In food processing, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved fluoropolymer grades as fabrication material for equipment due to their resistance to oil and cleaning materials, and their anti-stick and low friction properties. [Pg.6]

Nitrile mbber finds broad application in industry because of its excellent resistance to oil and chemicals, its good flexibility at low temperatures, high abrasion and heat resistance (up to 120°C), and good mechanical properties. Nitrile mbber consists of butadiene—acrylonitrile copolymers with an acrylonitrile content ranging from 15 to 45% (see Elastomers, SYNTHETIC, NITRILE RUBBER). In addition to the traditional applications of nitrile mbber for hoses, gaskets, seals, and oil well equipment, new applications have emerged with the development of nitrile mbber blends with poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC). These blends combine the chemical resistance and low temperature flexibility characteristics of nitrile mbber with the stability and ozone resistance of PVC. This has greatly expanded the use of nitrile mbber in outdoor applications for hoses, belts, and cable jackets, where ozone resistance is necessary. [Pg.186]

A considerable amount of work has already been successfully carried out in HASETRI with naturally occurring oils as eco-friendly process oils in conventional tire recipes [31,32]. These naturally occurring oils were found to be suitable on the basis of low PCA content. Some of the naturally occurring oils showed better processing properties, polymer-filler interaction, and dispersion properties in NR-based truck tire tread cap compound and hence better mechanical and dynamic mechanical properties. As the presently available low PCA oil in the market in the form of MES TDAE and naphthenic oil are comparatively costly, these natural oils can act as the best alternative processing aids for the elastomer industry, especially in developing and underdeveloped countries. [Pg.1033]

In recent years, blown oils have found their way into the polyurethane industry. The additional hydroxyl content introduced through the oxidation process makes the oils more reactive toward isocyanates [82]. The oils can usually be incorporated at low levels into conventional formulations with little compromise to the mechanical properties of the finished polyurethanes. The solubility and other physical properties of medium-chain fatty acids and their derivatives make them especially suited for surfactant manufacture.
